Logging of Flight Time
Dear all,
I have been alarmed at the number of students who have presented some questionable log books to me in recent times. They have been trainined at large schools and to ATPL theory level so I would expect a certain level of understanding.
The main issued raised are as follows:
Simulator time added to total flight time
Simulator time added to DUAL time
Simulator time added to PIC time
Logging P2 in single pilot aircraft
What is most alarming is that some of the excuses contained "that's what my instructor told me to do".
This needs to be circulated and prospective pilots MUST understand how to log flight time in accordance with AMC1 FCL.050 and NAA requirements! This will cause concern at the interview stage.
Thank you

I agree. When at CTC NZ (2007-8) I wrote an idiot's guide on logging of hours re JAA/EASA regulations. PIC/US is the other gotta.
The CAA once found some licence applicants all claiming P1 for the same flight in a PA28!

There seems to be a lot of confusion surrounding PICUS and SPIC.
The one that you pointed out which causes me to worry the most is the adding of sim time to total time.
While helping a company look through CVs last year for single pilot king air ops, there was an alarming amount of people with several thousand hours who included there sim time in the total time.

It's very common, cadet/low-houred types always add their simulator time. I even know of a Captain with low(ish) hours who added all his FO P1/s time onto his P1 time for a recent assessment in Abu Dhabi, needless to say he didn't get passed day 1!
It's all part of the "rush" to get onto jets in the shortest time possible, at maximum cost and overall minimum understanding of anything!

It's such a blatant disregard for what is right and what is legal.
I would have hoped our flight schools had taught this nothin ground school and flight training.

nick you must be joking, the big sausage schools only teach for test.
And once there product doesn't get a job on a shiny jet they then become an instructor and infect everywhere else with their nonsense.
