Post 100% Sponsorship Available...

Haven't posted for a while, but I thought people maybe interested in the following company who has advertised in the London Metro today.

http://www.malgus.com/aviation/index.html

They are offering 100% sponsorship, with training at Jerez. Not sure how established the company is, WWW / Scroggs any thoughts.

Check out the website.

Thumbs up Malgus

Guys, Malgus are currently up to Stage Three of their testing from their last sponsorship advertising campaign from Feb, I think, so this looks like their next drive. Fairly convinced it's not a scam but they haven't actually got anybody off to Jerez yet so can't say either way. There are a few wannabes who have got to the last/next stage so perhaps they'll be able to inform you of how authentic they feel Malgus is. The only thing you need to be aware is that the odds are very high, ie lots of people apply, only one gets to go to Jerez etc...

Only ONE gets their training paid? But everyone pays 147 quid to apply.

"How many apply?" is my first thought, because if there's enough it would be a self funding scheme along with a profit margin for the 'sponsors'.

If only 200 apply it pretty much breaks even for an approx. 30,000 quid course.

Add in the 15,000 to be repaid & only 100 need apply.

Bear in mind these are only rough figures and I haven't included any admin/selection/additional costs to the company but even so it still sounds more like a profit making exercise to me. One at the expense of all the other hopeful applicants.

Just had a better look at their website.

They make no claims about just how many they expect to sponsor. Could be no-one, one, two or (unlikely) everyone.

The 'successful' candidate(s) then have to repay "around 50% of the total cost we spend on you" (my emphasis). That would included training, accommodation, pocket money, travel & uniforms etc etc

Then theres a mysterious 'Clause 4' that refers to some other contractual arrange, no details of which seem to be available. Hmmmm....

I certainly would be thinking long and hard before applying for their scheme. Sound more like a lottery financial model only one where the winner(s) have to repay half the winnings.

Someone mentioned previously that you'd all be better off getting 200 hopefulls to put £150 in a hat and draw out a name.

That way, one person in 200 would get to do the course, and there would be no need to pay anything back, no contractual ties or obligations.

I don't think it's a 'scam' as such, but like a casino, the only guaranteed winners are Malgus.

Do a search on it, please fellas. It's been done to death and the general concensus was that although not a scam, the odds of getting selected are, shall we say, remote.

It works kinda like a pyramid scheme, in order for one to be successful, far more others need to be unsuccessful and hence subsidise the successful.

Malgus

If you search the numerous previous threads, you will see that the brief details so far are:-

The scheme seems to have no funding, other than the £147 entry fees. There would be income from students repaying their 50% eventually, but this would only start happening, a year or 2, after the first student goes to Jerez.

After deducting, VAT, costs of selection & admin, the chances of winning this "sponsorship", were estimeted by various PPRuNers, at between 400:1 and 600:1

Malgus has been going for about 2 years

So far as I can see, from PPRuNe postings, NO ONE has been sent to BAE Jerez so far, (but perhaps some will be this year?)

To be fair to Malgus, last year, when there were insufficient applicants paying the £147 entries, to fund even one student to Jerez, it was reported on PPRuNe that Malgus, refunded all the appilcants their £147 in full.

Just a note - none of information tells you that you will get a frozen ATPL at the end of the training - just that you will get "professional pilot training". There's also no mention of the types of jobs they will look for when you've finished "training" but that if they offer you a job YOU HAVE TO TAKE IT! REGARDLESS!!!

sounds a bit dodgy to me......
