Anyone know if a MD-80 type rating is required to transiton from a DC-9 (I have that type) to the -80? Are they two seperate types?

You're talking FAA? The DC-9 type is good from -10 through -90 even if they were made (?) by Boeing.

You're gonna have fun with the big finger dance on the FGP if you go on the MD80! Not entirely logical in the beginning, takes some getting used to and the auto throttle needs you to help it, especially in a deceleration level flight where you have pulled the levers to idle. I used to call the auto throttle the worlds best manually operated auto throttle. And those P&W JT8's spool up times differ enormously, good it's almost center thrust ;-)
