my friend is doing the cadetship at the moment. she had a PPL and about 140hrs when she got in. she also said that most of the other guys who got through were beginning their second career, with no flying exp.
it sounds like a lot of work, but anything good is worth working hard for!

I believe the HK union has got a ban on new entry pilots into Cathay due to an ongoing Industrial Dispute over some sackings - The 49ers. There was even a notice about it in Flight International.
Go to the forum for Hong Kong on PPrune (Fragrant Habour) for more info - it's pretty heated stuff!
Although many people seem to feel it's unfair for them to place the burdon of the dispute on young unemployed pilots, I'd think carefully about whether you want to upset your future colleagues (and training captains) by joining right now.
