Slightly confused..
Hey guys, this is my story so far:
17 years old (18 this November)
Lives in UK
Currently studying A-Levels (Maths, Physics and Chemistry)
Already have my GCSE's.
Ok so now you know some info about me, I would really love to pursue the career as a commercial pilot (or a private jet pilot). Also, my interest is also in programming. But I am confused what to do right now.
I really want to become a pilot but the thought of me not able to become a pilot (such as medical issues, or money or failing the exams etc) does question me whether or not am I fit to become a pilot. I was thinking of studying computer science/software engineering in university after my A-Levels and then find a flight school in America, Middle East or Australia since their prices are cheaper than the UK (although their accommodation costs are quite hefty) because if I do this, then if the unfortunate happens and I cant become a pilot, I will have a backup with my degree but my heart really isn't in university. And even if I go to uni, I will do a sandwhich course (which basically means on the 3rd year of the course, I will be working as a programmer for a company for 1 year and then go back to uni for the final year). If I do a sandwich course, there is a chance that I may not get paid whilst I'm working. I'm tired of education right now and I want to live my life and live my dreams.
So I just want your opinions on what I should do as this forum is full of experienced pilots.
Also, where do you think is the best country to learn flying? America, Middle East (i.e. the Gulf countries such as Dubai, Saudi, Kuwait etc).
Oh, by the way, for those of you who dont know how the UK education system works, its like this:
GCSEs are compulsory to have by the time you are 16. (Basically, after year 11, you would've gotten your GCSEs).
A-Levels are voluntary BUT is the key to going to university. You finish A-Levels at the age of 18, (19 if your retaking a year).
