Using software charts and planning aids for CPL?

Hello

I am a PPL holder and have just started my hours building for CPL.

I am trying to make a decision as to whether to stick to the ordinary CAA charts I was taught with throughout my PPL course, or move to something like Skydemon Plan or Airbox Fastplan to create suitable charts, grab NOTAMs, WX etc...

The reason is using the CAA charts is extremely cumbersome. Having a customised printed SD or Fastplan chart is miles easier. In the case of SD, planning would also be made a lot easier as all the appropriate NOTAMs and TAFs/METARs are downloaded automatically.

It would seem like a no-brainer if it wasn't for the fact that I'm using the hour building to prepare for the CPL. During the CPL course, would I be given a choice of planning/charting or would I have to use the standard CAA ones?

To be clear, in any case, I would still be using dead reckoning entirely when navigating up there, as opposed to using GPS - which I understand is more typical of SD users. I would also prepare the PLOG and associated wind/heading/track calculations etc manually.

I'd greatly appreciate any input you may have.

Thanks!
