Thumbs up Officer and Aircrew Selection

Some useful and current information just in for anyone considering military aviation. Our thanks to the regular PPRuNer who put it together.

Hi,

A few simple pointers for candidates attending Officer and Aircrew Selection Center for the RAF, at RAF Cranwell.

Visit www.raf.mod.uk , and learn whats there.

Visit www.raf-careers.com and practice the missions. I reckon this made a couple of the aptitude tests easier.

Try to visit a RAF base before you go to OASC. A lot of emphasis was put on this in the interview. (Airshows don't count).
Remember what you put on your application form, and learn your school dates. Do NOT lie about any convictions (speeding etc) on the inital application form.

Before attending OASC, you need to fill in a security clearance form. You cannot lie on this - MI5 will find out! This form will be compared to what you've put on the original application form before your interview.

Learn the training program for your chosen role, and also your 2nd/3rd choices.

Make sure you have a wide knowledge of current affairs, especially conflict zones, however this is not as important as knowing whats going on in the RAF.

The RAF organise presentations for potential OASC candidates, this is worth going to, as you will get a good picture of whats wanted.
Make sure you know how to do division, and other simple maths on paper. There's a lot of this in the aptitude tests.

READ THE QUESTION in the individual planning exercise. Most of us there hadn't, and had make stupid mistakes as a result.

This is not remotely the be all and end all of whats wanted, but is a useful pointer, based on whats there, and what most people struggled with.
