Cheapest Exam Fees in Europe for CPL/ ATPL theory?
To everyone -
research in the forum revealed only dispersed, incomprehensive info. Perhaps some fellas could add their local CAA's
cost of exam fees for the CPL/ ATPL ground exams.
UK fees are well documented, Greece apparently has real bargains but waiting periods, ....
The background on my question is as follows: I am currently converting from FAA CPL ME/IR to EASA fATPL in Switzerland, however, would love to do my flight instructor rating first, quick and dirty to keep on flying with the student paying the hours (in a club, I do not intend to make money out of it yet; most likely, as a 38-years-old myopia victim who loved coaching in other fields before this shall be my career path anyhow).
So - if I could get the CPL theory faster in order to use my funds on the instructor rating first, do you know of a CAA that regularly features exams? (I know, being a bit patient could allow me to kill all the birds with one stone, and the QDB are not that far apart, but in the next few months I do have time to study and fly, lateron this will be both limited so I'd rather have a bird in the hand than two in the bush; commuting within Europe would be cheap for me on standby tickets).
If some CAA, say Slovakia or Estonia or Luxembourg offers this in a "fly in with an endorsement from any ATO, pay 200 €, get the correction a week later and sign on to any instructor course in Europe" - I would love to hear from the collective wisdom of this wonderful forum. Perhaps others are interested too to shop around.

My understanding is that with EASA you may choose your authority. There's no requirement to live or work in the country which will issue your licence.
I think it would be great to post reviews of authorities, so that we can choose the best value for money.

Poland € 240 ( Zl 1000) for all exams. Good thing there is that it is all computer based and you get the results instantly. Plus the session lasts 10 days per month and you can just go to the CAA on those days and choose which exam you want to make

Hope you are aware of PART-FCL (see below) which may make 'shopping around for theory training/exams' a bit hard.
FCL.025 Theoretical knowledge examinations for the issue of licences
(1) Applicants shall take the entire set of examinations for a specific licence or rating under the responsibility of one Member State.
(2) Applicants shall only take the examination when recommended by the approved training organisation (ATO) responsible for their training, once they have completed the appropriate elements of the training course of theoretical knowledge instruction to a satisfactory standard.

I certainly am - but relocating and chosing a CPL/ FI(A) facility when I practise for the fATPL theory already is the reason why I put this thread up.

Can someone tell me about doing ATPL theory exams in Greece and do rest of my training in UK? Would that be possible? I wanna pass my ATPL theory exams in Greece then come back to UK and start to do cpl in UK as I'm from UK.

For your information, CAA Czech Republic allows the exams in the Czech Republic only to those applicants who have passed the theoretical course in the Czech Republic

Hi all
Very interesting regarding prices compared to the UK. I am also looking to do the ATPL exams. Could anyone tell me how it works in these other places when you have the experience to be exempt from the ground school. I see the UKCAA has a form that you fill in to get the credit.

would a phone call to some where like BGS or CATS help. I'm sure they would know which country you can sit the written exams in after finishing the groundschool with them.
BGS (If I remeber correctly) have a list of partners on their webisite and the majority are not UK based.

Instructing under FAA in no way prepares you at all for the EASA course content and can in fact make it harder due to primacy.

(if anyone was told otherwise direct from Czech CAA, then it's probably to rid of those pesky non-Czech plebs, possibly, haha)

Under EASA you need to do the theory course and exams in the same member state, but the practical training and testing, including the CPL can be done elswhere.
