Angry Merchant Navy or Sponsorship??

Hi Guys. This is my situation. I have been offered a position to train as a deck cadet with a well known shipping company. I start this course in september. The thing is the course lasts 3 and a half years and then I have to give 2 years return service(fair enough though). At that point though I will be just turning 27. the money is Very good and I think after about 7 years I would be able to pay for pilot training myself. What I would like to know is, Should I accept this position or wait for the big companies to offer sponsorship for pilot cadets. Any feedback would be great. Thanks FD
