Question South African PPL to Irish PPL

Thinking of starting my flying career by doing the PPL with the Flight Training College of South Africa. The deal is "SA CAA ICAO PPL" + IMC + night rating for £3,800. This price includes return flights to SA, accommodation and SA Class 3 Medical.

1.Is this a good deal, has anyone done or are about to do it? If so what did did they think of it?

2.Is there much involved in converting the license when I get back to the emerald Isle?

My name is Kevin,

That looks a bit strange, in that as far as I know, the only country that has an IMC is the UK, and it's not valid outside UK airspace.

Maybe the SA authorities have one as well now. If it's the same as the UK one, it won't be recognised in Ireland.

A PPL will be recognised, but you'll probably have to do most of the JAA exams, unless it's a JAA licence in SA ( I think they are looking at joining) if you want to convert it to an Irish licence.

In theory, you can fly day VFR in Ireland on the SA licence.

Hope that helps
