ATPL Met questions
Hi everyone,
I'm studying for the ATPL Met exam and I have a few questions which I'm looking for help on:
Divergence in the upper air results, near the surface in:
Rising pressure and likely dissipatation of clouds
Rising pressure and likely formation of clouds
Falling pressure and likely formation of clouds
Falling pressure and likely dissipatation of clouds
Between which lattitudes are you most likely to find the region of travelling low pressure systems during summer?
15-25 degrees
25-45 degrees
45-70 degrees
10-15 degrees
The pressure system indicated when, in a vertical cross section, the lower situated pressure surfaces bulge upward and the higher situated pressure surfaces bulge downward is a:
Warm low pressure area
Cold low pressure area
Cold high pressure area
Warm high pressure area
Where are easterly waves found?
Between subtropical high pressure cells and ITCZ
On the poleward side of the subtropical high pressure belt
In the region of the subtropical jet stream
In temperate lattitudes
The stability in a layer increases by advection of:
Cold air in the lower part
Moist air in the lower part
Dry air in the upper part
Warm air in the lower part

M8, its some real basics. If you cant answer any of those questions, I think you need to read more.
Here is help with one.
Air is diverging in upper part (going away from each other).
This "creates" an "empty space", that have to be filled with new air.
So air from the ground starts to rise to fill this gap.
When air rises, it get cooled down. Drop in temp - higher relative humidity, condensation, clouds start to form.
So answer is rising of the air and formation of the clouds.
Read this at least. This will help you with other questions as well.
