FAA License Conversion

Hi All,

I have a JAA/EASA fATPL (CPL/ME/IR) and I need to convert to an equivalent FAA license. I have already sent the relevant paperwork to the FAA to confirm that my license is valid.

I now need to start preparing to sit for the FAA CPL and IR written exams. Do you suggest any good books/software I can buy with all the questions on the FAA database? Something similar to Bristol online ground school website?

Thanks!

Hi there,
since you already got the JAA CPL/IR, passing the respective FAA knowledge tests should be "a piece of cake". The FAA tests are pretty much straight forward and by far not as abstract and extensive as the JAA BS! If you are just looking for a QDB, I can recommend the following website, they are for free!

Pilot Practice Page

Webexams.com

FAA Written Exam Test Preparation for Pilots

FREE FAA Pilot Tests Prep Center

FAA Written Test Prep for PC, iPhone/iPad, and MP3 players. Current for 2013! (Pay-ware!)

If you are looking for a little more (including CDs and/or ground instruction on CD) check-out the following two links:

ASA: FAA Test Preparation (check-out the virtual test-prep)

Pilot Ground School | King Schools (John & Martha King very famous among the FAA Aviation community - good stuff)

Hope I could help!

Go with Sheppard Air. The FAA has been revising and changing the exams recently. Sheppard Air updates their database consistently and uploads the newest version to your computer every time you start up the program.

Thank you!! All of them are very useful and good to know! I have chosen to go for the dauntless software one (since there is an iPad app) but I don't know if it's true that there are only 700 questions in the database for commercial FAA exams...they seem a bit on the low end...I updated the database and still shows the same...

But if that is true shouldn't be a problem revising them....I remember Air Law had more than 600 questions in the database alone for the JAA exams!

Thanks again much appreciated!

Hi Guys,

I'll be heading towards US for type rating on Non-FAA license(CPL/IR). I was thinking of planning the conversion as well, but I have been away for quite long time from theory parts, and as planning for Type rating on Jan'14, I think it would be a short time to refresh myself as I'll need to study for type as well. But some times I think I can do it (because of being good on theory few years back) so was thinking of risking it.
And if you pass theory how long after you can go for a check ride? as I might not be long enough there for my type rating. so was thinking if I can sit for theory at least this time and do the checkrides letter, as I might be needing some recurrency on Genav part as well.

Are you trying to get a FAA commercial or do you have the hours for the ATP? The commercial is a pain because you have to hold a FAA private certificate first. If you have the hours and a foreign commercial you can go straight to the FAA ATP.

The FAA knowledge tests are good for two years. Be advised that starting next summer you have to complete a 40 hour ground school of classroom and sims to sit the ATP knowledge test.

Wow, thanks MI. Unfortunately I do not have ATP hours yet. I was thinking that you need to have FAA CPL/IR as well in order to get the ATP, but if we can get straight to ATP then I can wait. However I think in both cases they will first issue you FAA Private based on foreign license, isn't it? I don't know why everytime I'm planning for something, things are getting complicated, difficult and tougher. 40 hrs GS and Sim would do, but I hope they do not anull the whole process of conversion by the time I make the ATP hours
