SEP renewal using instructor hours?

Have FAA CFI license and JAA CPL.

I need to validate my JAA SEP and would like to do that using the 12 hour rule.

I will be in the US for a few months and was wondering if I could fly the 11 PIC hours as an instructor. Might as well get paid while add the hours, otherwise I'll just have to rent a 150 and hop around.

You eligible for employment in the USA?
FAA has ruled that 'free flight time' is also compensation.
Isn't there anything in the plethora of European rules that the 'renewal PIC' needs to be sole manipulator of the controls?
