Post Why BA?!!!!

It's clear that the majority of the messages on this forum are related to BA in some way. People rave on about them, but they are not the world leaders they make out to be, some people comment on them like they are godly and cannot be touched. Maybe it's something to do with them being the one of few offering full sponsorship. I'm just saying to those wannabe pilots, especially those at uni don't pin your hopes too much on one airline or route to getting your APTL. Plan around it, only a around 100 get in each year outof the many thousands who apply. Work hard and get your degree, then hopefully after landing a good job you can have the funds in place for self sponsorship. Good luck to those who are applying to sponsorships and I hope you all get there (someday).

I think you have hit the nail on the head in your post Neil767 - the fact that it is a full sponsorship is probably why there is so much interest in the scheme..... It's very difficult to raise cash for an integrated course, particularly if you come out of Uni in debt which most students do nowdays. It's BA, or a long hard slog on the Modular route for most I reckon....

I agree with the fact you should not pin down all hopes on one route but, I think people want to do it through British Airways because of their renowned reputation. When you see nearly an entire terminal filled with British Airways Aircraft is generates a sign of strength an security that people want from a company they work for. Also BA's customer service is second to none. They are also taking a financial risk investing £60,000 in someone who has quite likely never worked for them. It's nice to see a company willing to do that,

Thanks

If you Brit wannabe's are so hard up for cash after you leave uni, why bother going to university and getting a degree in the first place when a career as a pilot is what you want?? Why not get stuck into the flying straight away. If it is your dream then money should not be an option.

Although not necessary, a degree does hold some weight, particularly concerning sponsorships. It's a bit of a catch-22 situation really. It's also nice to have something to fall back on too as numerous posts have stated.

BA is a great opportunity, but its not the only one nor is it the best. Sure the company will cough up the cash and give you a defined career route. But you will be paying back that advanced loan for some time, the command time is around 10 years and for the short term you get get to fly some pretty repetitive routes. Added to this you are just a number, in a company of 60,000 people. Its great for a while, but after some time you lose sense of belonging.

There are other companies that offer sponsorships full and part, that have a better variety of flying in the first few years, faster command promotion times and pay more.

Its all horses for courses. Some people prefer the stability of a large airline with its politics and others a smaller out fit without the hassle. At the end of the day anyone who is going to give you the opportunity to get into a shiny jet has got to be worth consideration.

BA might be the biggest, but it doesnt mean they are the best.

I don't know what kind of powder you're on but it should carry a health warning - be careful and don't get caught in possession. People like you freak me out.

Who said the flying game was secure, its anything but! Before Rod took over, BA was doing cr@p and if this course of action was sustained the pilot workforce would have been hit hard. Thus even BA is not secure.

BA's customer service is second to none
I wouldn't say that to my wife who has just returned from the UK on BA. Appalling service which she rightly complained about. And for her efforts, all she got was a polite FO. If you think BA is quality service, have you ever flown Virgin - substantially better.

Read again. There are no harsh words whatsoever. Merely a different opinion.

I was just taking a side of the Argument. From my experience I have had nothing but good Customer Service from BA. Just gave a reason why people want to join the company. So no need for the harsh reply.
