Question BA - Whats the situation?

Earlier this year I applied, like many others, for BA's cadet pilot scheme. However after sending off the application I (eventually) received a letter saying 'regretfully ...' ya de ya de ya...

Having spoken to countless others saying "If your unsuccessful leave it a week or two and apply again, unless you get the 'go away'/'please wait twelve months' letter" so I applied again only to be informed that I have to wait 12 months. The supervisor told me this so I didn't argue. Now I didn't get either of these letters, if they exist.

Since then, I have heard that people have been re-applying since then ... and being offered tests! How can this be? Is there something I'm missing, i.e. getting a friend to get the form and fill it in myself, or neglect to mention previous applications when calling the hotline.
I'm reluctant to try the 'devious' approach unless this seems common... If anyone knows the current BA policy on applying again please could you reply to this thread.

BTW: This morning I left a message on Mary Brown's answer phone, big chiefess for the scheme. I hope she returns the call.

You cannot reapply to the scheme for 12 months if you have been turned down at any stage, regardless of the letter you receive. If that's it then sadly that's it. Maybe the info you've been getting is made up, exagerated, or for extremely special circumstances, although rumour has it that that the rules aren't bent unless there is a really, really good reason to.

The BA staff will keep your application on file and will review it when you reapply, so if you hassle them them maybe thet'll keep your hassling letters, which is probably not a good thing. Mary Brown is high in recruitment but just so you know she is not the flight crew head honcho in charge of the scheme, incase you were hoping for that person.

Good Luck to you anyway,

SB

Official answer to this was (at the assesment day): 12 months after date of rejection no matter what stage you were at. However, she did mention that becuase it took time for the initial application to be processed, you can apply a couple of months before this (so between 10-12 months). Reason being, if you wait the full 12 months then adding the time BA take for the initial application assessment, it could be anything up to 15 months since your last invite/decline - so they give you a bit of a headstart that way, and they should!

Thanks for clarifying things speedbird, much appreciated. I thought BA's answer would have been the right one ... but can you blame me for questioning it?

Since I got that letter a while ago now, I have been arranging alternative routes...

Mary Brown did ring back the afternoon I posted that last bit ... and it is twelve month wait if you get turned down at any stage - definate.

Oh well, may have to do something rash involving a bank and loads of money...

Hi everyone.

I'm considering applying to BA for a direct entry position on the A320. Unfortunately, their information pack did not include any details about the F/O position i.e terms of employment etc.

Could someone shed some light on some basic details such as;

1) Crew morale
2) Average roster
3) Approx. time to command
4) Salary after taxes

Thanks for your help.

Private Eye;

I would recommend that you post your own thread as no one will see it here...

Apologies to all other ppruners for sending this up the list again but I think the above post needs to be seen.

Regards

Private Eye-

The best place for info about BA at the moment is on a thread called 'BA to recruit DEPs on the 744' which you will find in the Rumours and News section. Lots of info there, not all about the 744!!

Good Luck!
