CPL trainng near Southampton UK
Hello everyone!
I'm moving to Southampton next year to attend university and was wondering if there were any good schools in the area... I currently have a JAA PPL (issued in France) and would be interested in flying and ideally training for a CPL.
From what I've heard EGHI has become a nightmare for GA, are there any other fields in the area?
Thanks a lot!

If you're doing a degree at the University of Southampton - I'm sure you'll get both a great education and have a lot of fun. I have two degrees from there and enjoyed every minute (well apart from the bit involving writing up a PhD thesis anyhow). What subject?
You're quite right - EGHI is not GA friendly any more, but there are several good schools at EGHH just down the road: for commercial training have a look at
Bournemouth Commercial Flight Training
For fun flying, look at
Bournemouth Flying Club - Welcome to the Club
And for a really fun and relaxed place to hang out with fellow pilots, look at
Popham Airfield Home Page
Best of luck with your degree, and please be warned - I know how hard the more serious degrees work you at Southampton, and wouldn't rely on having time to learn flying seriously as well, unless you do it in concentrated periods over the summer break.

Woah! Thanks for all the info!
I'm going to study computer sciences which should be brilliant fun, I went to an open day and it was just amazing!
Did you study aeronautical engineering there?
Yeah I'm hoping to have enough time but I guess I probably won't. I'm definitely gonna keep flying though and I'll try and get a head start on the theoretical aspects of the CPL, it would be perfect if I had my 150 hours and the CPL theoretical when I left - as soon as I'd have a job and a bit of money I could get my CPL, IR, ME and then hopefully a job as a pilot!

GTS at Bournemouth are top notch for ATPL, CPL and IR theory Modular courses. Ex RAF pilot and navigators and BA 747 et al flight engineer lecturers, all experts in their field and friendly with it. My lowest pass mark was 90% (with a few 100%s) and I am no clever graduate and was working full time. For some additional info check out GTS Groundschool and
