King PPL Vidoes
Dear helpful aviator types,
I've a birthday coming up and Mrs. Crunch has offered to pay for a set of the King FAA PPL videos (about 140 notes from Transair). I'll be finishing a JAR PPL in the US later this year but there are no JAR video courses available. Is it worth watching the FAA course? Presumably many details are the same ("This is a plane, that way's up and that way spells trouble et ceterae") but are the actual fillums any good? I should think things like R/T frequencies differ and there may be other "bad" information I'll pick up which I might be better off not knowing. I've seen King do the intro to FS 2000 and his particular brand of enthusiasm and boundless cheerfulness is actually quite appealing (!). So, would these be a good idea or should I let Mrs. Crunch pay for another three months membership to the Cologne Chinese Laundry and a case of Gentleman's Relish? Missus.

Depending on where you finish the PPL, the flying school may have their own video's(OBA do). When you say finish, have you done the exams yet? If you've not, some Trevor Thom books might be better.
There will be some difference's between the JAR and FAA techniques, such as the way you join the circuit. PPl video's can be very boring, and if you've already done some flying, they could turn out to be too 'simple' and just cover stuff you know anyhow.
Hmmmm .. now what would I do with £140 ... 4 US hours, nice jacket, gps, flight to somewhere for the weekend ... 12% of an IMC rating

ibb - thanks for your reply. I've had a few oors here in Germany but only as trial lessons - am much keener on doing the whole lot in one go in the US. I've read the TT books twice (all 7) but having bought one of the other guy's books (the main rival series of 6 FT books - can't remember the name but much better all round, I thought) I wish I'd gone for them. I'm going to Orlando Flight Training and they probably do have the videos however Mrs. Crunch informs me that said fillums are already on the way from Transair.
