Air 2000 sponsorship

As I understand it Air 2000 will be running a part sponsorship scheme in conjunction with Cabair.
I have been informed that you don't need any previous flying experience to apply but most applicants do have a PPL.
I am 27 years old with no ppl yet. However I am planning to get one but probably not in time for this years sponsorship.
Should I make a real effort to get one before september so that I have a better chance in the sponsorship?? (The reason I am waiting is to save some money up first and also wait for better weather in the US eg Nov time).
If I don't make this years sponsorship I will be 28 in sept 2002 so may be too old by the time I'm allowed to reapply. Bit or a dilemma!
I think I would struggle to get the money and time off work before sept for a ppl, it may be possible but is it really necessary for this sponsorship??
Any ideas anyone??

No just make sure that you're maths is s**t hot, if you get to the first stage of tests, it has to be at least as good as GCSE if not better, and without the aid of a calculator.
Generally airlines just want to see that you have started to fly and that you have a genuine interest.

Knight on the town,
I wouldn't push for the whole PPL, just do some hours so if you are lucky enough to get to interview you can prove your "interest"!
Getting to the first stage itself is a bit of a lottery (!) as a lot of posters on PPRUNE will concur. Do a search above on last years Air 2000 sponsorship.
Good Luck
