Post Questions for BAE Jerez'ers

Hi - For those of you off to Jerez in October I wonder if you'd be happy to share your thoughts on the following (to someone you may well follow in your footsteps) :
1) Why BAE Jerez ? Specifically over UK based Ab Int. courses, and over modular courses either in UK or US.
2) What the split is between self funded and airline sponsored. Which airlines are sending out students on the October course ?
3) (Realistically) Where / What do you see yourselves doing in 18 months time.
4) Is everyone going single ?! Do any of you have partners, are they staying behind, have any of you considered travelling with them ?
Thanks

Hi Mr727,

1) The price (food + board included), the weather, the atmosphere (very professional and friendly), generally everything seemed damn good oh, and the chance to get away from the British police.

2) Did ask this question when I was there but the answer slips my mind right now. I may be wrong but is it 60% self sponsors and 40% airline? Self sponsorers appear to be treated equally.

3) Realistically? Firing off CVs and maybe attending the odd interview.

4) I am going single. The on site accomodation is single room + en-suite. I was seeing a burd but she was Chicken Oriental (mental) so I gave her the Spanish Archer (El Bow). I couldn't concentrate as well if there was a female on the scene.

Best thing is to BUZZ over for the day and check it out. I'm sure you will be dead impressed. Hope to see you soon!

VFE.

VFE,

Couldn't have put it better myself.

Just to back up the price bit - VAT is only charged on Accomodation & Food, NOT the training. It's also only 7% VAT not our whopping 17.5

The Euro ain't doing too well either

Aircraft seem to be in excellent condition and the less crowded airspace was quite attractive too. Some places in the UK have a number of aircraft in the circuit with singles being chased by twins, being chased by low cloud

But as VFE say's go down and have a look, at the end of the day you need to be happy with the whole establishment, 14 months is quite a long time.

Women - I'll let you know in three weeks...

Cool

Hi Mr727,

My reasons are not to dissimilar from VFE's but hey, it's a Pprune question that I can actually answer for a change!

1)
I spent several months looking at various schools, OATs, Cabair, BAe systems, SFT, Multi-flight etc, etc, not to mention several modular options.

My findings were this:-

OATs was very impressive, a fantastic set-up! But!!! the high price and the many stories I have heard about the airline cadets getting special treatment (for reasons I can understand), put me off.

A trip to Jerez was called for, and I must say, I was impressed. Cabair, Multi-flight etc. just did'nt feel right, but SFT seemed a very possible option. I sat down and worked out all the costs for going to SFT and (being realistic), came up with a price within £5,000 of Jerez.

At the end of the day, I decided to opt for Spain. A fantastic set up, friendly and proffesional people, no food or accom. to worry about, a fantastic fleet of a/c and perfect weather, all run by a massive, aircraft industry recognised, UK company. (oh and a bloody nice swimming pool)!

Further more, I decided it would do me good to get away from all the distractions at home, and make a consentrated effort.

2)
The figures VFE has stated ring a bell! The August class was completely filled with BA cadets, whilst our Oct 1st class will be all self-funded. Some classes are mixed. But everyone seems to mix well and get on.

3)
In 18 months, hopefully I will hold a fATPL. After this, I will obviously send off millions of C.V.s, but will also be off to get an QFI's ticket ready for summer 03. It is my intention to fly, even if its in a 'spam can' for £10 per hr!

4)
Touchy subject at the moment!!

At the end of the day, after taking everything into account, I decided that Jerez suited ME! It may not suite everyone (depends on your personal situation and circumstances). I know the training will be very hard work, but even so, I intend to enjoy it, and Southern Spain seems a little more attractive than cold, wet, dull (and very expensive) Blighty!

Do your research before you decide!!

Good Luck W-S.

Hi Mr 727,

I am one of the guys starting 1 Oct. To start with your first question: I first had to ask myself whether I wanted to do it the modular way, or follow an integrated course. After some research I found out that most airlines prever students who' ve completed an approved integrated course. Don't ask me why. So I obtained a list from the CAA with all approved FTO's offering integrated courses(there are only a few). This reduced my research work considerably. OATS & Cabair are not affordable, there I am not a UK residence and the pound sterling is to strong. Going to the USA isn't an options in my point of view. Lots of students have difficulties in converting their FAA licence to a European/JAA licence. There where only a few FTO's left an my list, BAE was one of them. I decided to bring them a visit, I suggest you should do the same. I was very impressed about what I saw. Everything looked very professional & friendly. Their strong reputation and looking financial secure where also arguments to opt for BAE. English is not my native language, BAE being an English FTO will give me the opportunity to bring my English on a higher level. Located in Spain will also give me the opportunity to meet another culture. By training abroad I can also show my future employer that I don't mind living abroad( am already used to that).
Training lots of airline sponsored cadets provides an indication of the quality & standard of the training. Their contacts with these airlines might also be useful for me when looking for a job.
These are only a few arguments why I opted for BAE. You are about to spent a lot of money, so do your research and know what you want. There is a website which can assist you in selecting the FTO who suits you: WWW.AVASP.COM. Maybe you've heard about this site. I found a lot of useful information.

Most reliable course for information are students already enrolled on the course. So I'll keep you up to date.

Second question has already been answered by my fellow students.

Third question: I really hope I am already employed as a F/O'er. Or maybe you find me somewhere as a FI. It really depends on the market conditions.

Yes, I am going single. So can safely look around there

Cheers,

Regional
