Orlando Flight Training / Airline Career Academy
Hi guys, I'm off to Florida soon and I need to renew my JAA ME/IR in the next 3 months. Therefore am going to do it at OFT/ACA (Airline Career Academy, your pilot training school located in Kissimme, Florida)
Has anyone done the JAA ME/IR there or renewed one?
What was the test like, flight details if possible?
Who was the examiner?
Were you happy with the school/instructors?
Any other necessary advice I may have missed?
I revalidated my last one in Ireland but I will save quite a bit doing it in Orlando.
Appreciate any feedback.
Cheers!

I did ground school there and was very happy with instructors.
Many people or not happy with flying there. I did not fly there my self. But, compering to my old school, OFT looks amazing tbh.
People complaining is moslty italians, who can not speek english at all and dont want to study or get any knowledge either.
If you can manage to get David Friewold (not sure about spelling of his last name), you will get one of the best instructors in US. He is mainly ground instructor, but now and then he may take a student for flying.
He still have 100% first time pass rate for all his flying students. Man was AMAZING knowledge and teaching skills!

I just did some hours building in Kissimmee.... Part with OFT and part with Sunstate. ( the other main school on the other side of the field )
I seem to remember OFT being slightly cheaper than Sunstate, but I preferred the aircraft and instructors at the latter. Was a smaller outfit and aircraft were all new and had a lot of Glass Cockpits available, which may be more useful to you if that is your preferred style?
May I suggest you try a little google search on Sunstate Aviation and see what you think?
Either way, Orlando and Florida in general is a great place to fly, enjoy it!

I flew there in September 2011 hour building. As an hours builder I was made to feel that I was getting in the way. It was 5 days before I flew as instructors were either late/ failed to turn up and all the aircraft (152) were unserviceable.
Un-serviceability was the theme for the month I was there. As an hours builder the 152 were at the bottom of the pile to be fixed. The "0 to Hero" students aircraft were priority.
When I left the deposit was not returned to me. It took 2 months to get it back. After another month I found $500 had been removed from my bank. The school had failed to pay the hotel for a large number of students and the hotel had billed me. This money is yet to be recoved.
If you do go, be sure to go to "The Wing House"..

Thanks for your feedback guys!
I spoke to to a nice guy called Alan at OFT today and he said they are not taking any more new students until May/June because they are so busy which I appreciate a lot as he could have had me over there hanging around waiting for aircraft/instructors etc.
Going to try EASA and see what they have on offer

I'm Italian and I have no problem with the English lingo or the will to learn, therefore I'm considering taking my flight lessons in Florida as well. I stumbled upon Orlando Academy and I even noticed that they have a particular channel for Italians. How does this combine with the fact that they don't speak the language (they would never be pilot then)?
Then I discovered another school with amazing prices: Euro American School of Aviation. Does anyone have experience with them?
