Question RAF age limit for pilots

What is it?...

The upper age limit is 23, but does anybody know what that means? Is it:

If you're 23 already you're too old.

or:

You must start traininng while you are 23 or under.?

Cheers

Pie

Wink

I thought the upper age was 24, maybe the 23 allows a year for selection and IOT. I believe you have to start pilot training by age 24. I will check for you.

You must be no more than 23 years and 11 months old on the day you start Initial Officar Training. (25/11 for navigators). If you're likely to be older than that, try the Navy or Army, who both have higher age limits.

You have to be 24 or less at the start of Initial Officer Training.

University students are required to be not older than 23yrs 6 months at graduation to ensure the above.

Cool

You need to be under 24 when you start IOT. I hopefully start IOT in August, 5 days before my 24th birthday. Very very very occasionally will they vaiver this age limit, but specific reasons are needed, and you really need to be in the services already. You must appply initally no later than around 8 months before your 24th birthday, but it's far better to apply sooner rather than later.

Always wanted to join the RAF but found out about the age limit 2 years ago, I will be 23 and 9 months when I graduate...typical! Gutted at the time, but then I found out that some civilian cargo copanies fly C-130s so I'll still fly one yet!!

Out of curiosity - In the Fleet Air Arm, is it still possible to be streamed Fast Jet if you apply when you're 26 !?!?

Yes it is. It comes down to flying ability. Return of service is 5 years for pilots, and 6 for Sea Harrier.
