Modular flying with OAT.

Hi
I am currently doing the modular theory, exams next Monday at Gatwick if anyone else is there, I have started looking into the various methods of doing the flight training as an excuse to stop reading Operational Procedures.
Has any one had the pleasure yet of OAT's nearly Welsh flying experience?.

I was at OATS (Modular) last year, I already held a BCPL and did the CPL/IR approved Upgrade, I take it you'll be doing the JAA CPL and IR Modules.
The instructors are great, first class, though there are some issues about the equipment. I spent a lot of time waiting for aircraft to become available - at one stage I didn't fly for over two weeks. Though I got the IR done in the alloted 13 weeks and passed the IRT in the first series.
I understand the place is even busier now, with BA cadets at the Modular school.
I'll be going back there for my renewal/revalidation if I don't get a RHS job at the end of the year, so that must be some sort of recommoendation
If you want anymore details please feel free to email me.

Bloody hell i though the whole point of the modular center was that you were away from the cadets.
They have now increased the time allocated to 15weeks for the IR. It's strange because when i was doing the brush up course hardly anything seemed to move off the ramp.

The BA cadets are those who trained at Western Michigan Uni, but need to complete IR training in the UK to meet JAR requirements. Since Oxford lost out on the contract for that particular batch of students they have shipped them off to Gloucester rather than Kidlington for the few hours they need to do. I don't know how many there are, but I doubt it's a long term arrangement.
It is certainly a better place to train than at Oxford's main base, but aircraft availability is sometimes a problem. Having said that they usually have them repaired as a matter of priority with on field maintenance.
As for the instructors, most are first class, but not all. Hope you're not unlucky!
