I was on a gliding scholarship in April 99, had a great time and still keep in touch with people i met there. I forget the actual squadron, but we used Vigilants. The stuff i learned there came in really useful when i started learning to fly over here in Canada. Anyway the Squadron was great and i got Silver wings at the end.

I completed AGT2 Training at 635VGS (Salmersbury). .in August 1997.
Although it was a long time ago I can remenmber everything as if it was only yesterday.
I tried to get on as a Staff Cadet but there were no vacancies at the time and now I have left cadets because of my age I will not have a chance of going back there again.
We used the Vigilants also. Crackin planes!!

oh and the squadron was great.
Saturdays were the busiest. You could have been there from 8am till 7pm and only got to go up once.
I was lucky and managed to get up at least twice a day. Flights lasting 40mins each

HI - I was a staff Cadet - but on survival training not flying sadly. I was with 356 (Felixstowe)Sqn working out of places like RAF Bawdsey (the birth place of Radar) and similar.
I did however compleate my first solo at RAF Swanton Morley in 1986 with 611 VGS after 5hrs 39min in a Venture Tmk2.....what a feeling !!!
The Cadets was great - any younger wannabes that are 'thinking' about joining are advised to turn off the Play Sation go and give it a go !
Good luck to all you Ex Cadets out there !!!

Great years, great mates and a high quality low cost start to my aviation career...

G-MANN,. . Unfortuantly i haven't been back since i finished there, as i am now in canada half way through a CPL multi IFR. Don't know this Gill Lakpour either, but then again i was only there for a week. Oh and i was in the CCF. So what do u do now, anything to do with flying? Oh did u stay in the Sea cadet accomodation that was nearby, think it was in Skipool or something like that... anyway there were lots of antennas there.

DAN761,
I live about 30mins drive from 635VGS and now work for a UK charter airline.
g-okay,
You could try ringing East Lancs wing of the Air Training Corp, get the number for 1036 Squadron and speak to Andy Lees. He was the adjutant for the school. He might be able to sort something. Thats if he's still there though. I was there in 1997 for 6 months.

614 anyone??????
Anyone out there from 614 VGS???
I was out there in 2000 on a gliding scholarship, great fun, had my very first solo, and that really is what gave me the push to go commercial, looking back at it now, the learning curve was so steep at that time for me, I actually found the rest of my flying(powered) was easier after that. That was such a good time, all that free flying, hardwork etc etc, not like these days where flying flying squeezes so much money out of you.
Anyway, happy flying/gliding to you all.
