FAA ATP practical oral preparation

Practical ATP oral

Hi guys

I am planing to do my FAA ATP combined with Boeing 737 NG TR.

For the Written ATP i think i will be ok with the Gleim prep book.

However i am a little concerned about the oral test of the practical test since i am not very familiar with FAA regs.

Any advice or test prep book or software to prepare for that ?

thanks

the FAR/AIM contains a suggested study list for the respective certificate sought, which covers all of the Regs the applicant should be familiar with. The study list can be found at the beginning of the FAR/AIM just prior the T.O.C.

FAR/AIM:
Amazon.com: FAR/AIM 2012: Federal Aviation Regulations/Aeronautical Information Manual (FAR/AIM series) (9781560278580): Federal Aviation Administration (FAA): Books Amazon.com: FAR/AIM 2012: Federal Aviation Regulations/Aeronautical Information Manual (FAR/AIM series) (9781560278580): Federal Aviation Administration (FAA): Books

Oral exam guide - FAA ATP:

Hayes: Books Amazon.com: Airline Transport Pilot Oral Exam Guide: The Comprehensive Guide to Prepare You for the FAA Checkride (Oral Exam Guide series) (9781560278634): Michael D. Hayes: Books

Good luck

A piece of advice given to me for my oral tests ( IR CPL CFI) Keep your answers short and to the point. If you have a weakness the examiner will probe and if you waffle it will help him lock on. Dont forget part91 the bog standard regs that every American pilot knows backwards.

@ josmison:

You can take the FAR/AIM with you for the oral exam (makes a good impression on the examiner, but only if it's the current version), if you are not exactly sure about a particular Reg you can look it up, as long as it won't take you for ever to find what you are looking for - recommend to index the most important Regs! To get an idea on what the examiner might be questioning you, I'd recommend the oral exam guide!

If you want to have a clear schedule on what you'll be tested during the ATP checkride, I'd recommend the Practical Test Standard (PTS) it gives you a complete layout of both, the oral and the practical part of the ATP checkride. The examiner uses the PTS as the primary reference.

The PTS is available as a free download on the following link:
Pilot Practical Test Standards

Does this imply this will be your first FAA certificate issued (excluding any FAR 61.75 private cert)? If it is, you will require TSA clearance. https://www.flightschoolcandidates.gov
