Red face Oxford Aviation Gripe

Despite new modular students having paid in full for the latest course on arrival they have been told to cough up almost £300 for uniform and sundries that were free to former students. The class size has also incresed from 22 to 30 student. Heads up for those who are thinking of going

Class sizes increasing?

Perhaps it's being run by New Labour...

Uniform etc was apparently always included in the price, students paid up thinking they were getting the same deal only to be told otherwise on arrival. Perhaps it is a cost saving measure to pay for the repairs on the aircraft that landed gear up last week, instuctor pilot I hear !

Not another wheels up at oxford, those green lights!

As for 30 to a class I’d demand my money back, oxford doesn’t carry the reputation it once did and there are a number of good school out there.

It is hardly surprising that class sizes are increasing. With PPSC and SFT both out of business there is less capacity in the industry so those schools still trading will have to handle the extra demand. Inevitably if these schools are flush with students they will want to put their prices up. This is bound to happen even if at the moment the uniform charge is the only increase. Even so, £300 sounds a lot for the Oxford "security man" style uniform.

ML

You are indeed correct in that for "previous students" they were free.

I found myself in exactly the same position, I was asked for the money for the uniform but rather than moaning about it I spoke to the head of training quietly and sensibly and now my problem doesnt exist.

Rather than having a go at the establishment on a public forum (The same establishment that holds your future in its hands) why dont you be proactive and speak to whoever is in charge. (However having just read your post again I'm not sure if you are actually at OATS or just having a go, which does seem to be a popular pastime for people who havent even been)

I'm sure you will find that they are aware that people are feeling this way, they will listen and (Hopefully) come to some arrangement.

Good luck with your endeavours ML

TBL. .I'm not having a pop at OATS, they are the best school on the market, however they appear to have an incresing number of hidden costs. Prospective students might not know about these and might like to factor them into thier financial planning before committing a shed load of money for training that can be found else where at a lesser price. In the past I know that many students have fallen foul of Oxfords over ambitious marketing & advertising only finding out the hard facts on arrival. After I secured a place on an Oxford course with a deposit I was told on arrival that the price had gone up and was asked for an extra £xxx ! My advice to anybody considering Oxford is visit the place and talk to the most recent student intake on your course before you commit.. .MLH

This seams strange that everytime I have a look on Wannabes there is somebody having a go at one school or other. This school seams to take more than its fair share.. .Could somebody please explain to me why people still pay all their funds to the schools up front. Especially after PPSC, SFT and Lydd. To me you are asking to lose your money. Have a think about it. I would like some feed back. Constructive though please.
