CPL Test Clarification

Hi Guys,

Need some clarification here boys and girls as its been a while I did my CPL test.

I have been told by a friend who did a CPL test in the UK that a test is considered a fail only once two sections of the in flight phase has been failed. He claimed this was said to him by a CAA examiner during briefing before his CPL test.

I am pretty sure this is incorrect as a CPL failure occurs once any two sections has been failed and this includes the departure phase which isn's considered inflight.

I got a partial pass on my CPL exam a few weeks ago.

Did not pass the navigation portion and by default did not pass the departure portion since I had to do that again in my retake. Technically, I passed the departure but I had to do that portion again to get onto the navigation portion.

The examiner described it as a partial pass.

Hope that answers your question.

Hi Trolle,

Thanks for your response.

This will enforce my understanding that had you failed the departure section and any one subsequent section i.e. in your case (navigation section), then that should have been a FULL Fail and not a partial.

You must therefore have passed your departure phase to have been awarded a PARTIAL!

Thanks for clarifying.

Why do it if it's not fun?

Flyman, you are correct.

Just to clarify, in case there is any confusion. If you fail ONE section, you get a partial. You must re-take the failed section AND section 1 (Departure). If you fail more than one section, it is a full fail.

Exactly the same is true for the initial IR test.
