A list of FTOs in different JAA countries?

Is there such a list?

I am particularly looking for one for Croatia.

Many thanks

Des anybody have a contact at the UK CAA who I can email for a confirmation they will accept an IR from a specific non-UK JAA FTO onto a UK CAA JAA PPL?

I have had a zero success rate over the past year getting replies to any emails sent to the generic addresses. One gets the auto-responder ack but no human replies. However internal email addresses (name@) do get replied to.

Hey

I use to work there, so while obviously not an official answer it may help.

You can do an IR course in any JAA state and the UK will add it to your licence.

Since I've left they've created a new application for this - the SRG 1193

http://www.caa.co.uk/docs/33/SRG1193FF.pdf

INCLUSION OF AN INSTRUMENT RATING AEROPLANE IN A JAR–FCL PILOT’S LICENCE –
APPLICATION (FOR IR COURSES NOT APPROVED BY THE UK CAA)

There's guidance at the bottom showing what you need to supply with it.

• All original Flying Logbooks
• Flying Training Records for the IR training completed
• Actual non-UK Instrument Rating Skills Test Form
• Copy of IR Skill Test JAR Examiner Approval Certificate
• Copy of JAA Simulator Approval Certificate
• Copy of Training Schools JAR Authorisation Certificate
• Payment form SRG\1187

I'm not sure why they need training records, surely a logbook showing you've completed a non UK JAR approved IR course is enough, along with the SRG1193 signed off by the head of training to say you've completed their approved course. I'm not even sure the admin staff there in P LD know what a NDB/VOR or ILS even is, but who am I to argue?

Hope this helps.

Many thanks. I was aware of 1193FF but did not realise that the CAA does accept non-UK IRs without issues nowadays.

Historically, all kinds of rumours went around concerning this, with one story (about which I know little, but do recall speaking to one such chap personally) about some people having to bring a solicitor to the CAA to get the IR added.

My only guess on this happening would be a long time ago perhaps on the cross over from national regulations to JAA around 1999/2000, when the process of doing an IR in a JAA state different to your licence issue state first came about.

The process you're considering has been perfectly accepted as far back as when I joined in 2004.

Good luck with the training, and enjoy!
