Airline pilot career... self improver route.

Hi guys
I've already had a thread on here about this but i've been given some good info but also some very misleading information too.
I'm hoping to qualify to be an airline pilot by doing the self improver route so to clarify can someone tell me all the courses/steps i need to take and what order i need to do them?
Any info will be appreciated... thank you!

Hi

As per your other thread it is hard to give advice unless you specify how your are proposing to train (ie Full or Part time, UK or abroad etc.) Also are you limited by cost, time off work or both?

People generally use the term 'Modular' when they talk about what was the 'Self Improver' route.

The main courses, assuming you are talking JAR (Europe) are:

PPL
ATPL Theory
ME
ME/IR
CPL

(CPL, ME/IR can be done in either order)

after the PPL you will need 70 hrs PIC to do the ME rating. You will need this to do the ME/IR. (I know thats for issue and you only need the training done but lets not complicate it)

CPL you will need more hours but many people still do this before the IR as the IR is very demanding.

If you don't have a PPL and no experience I would suggest booking a trial flight to see whether its for you. This will go in your logbook as your first lesson so its not a waste.

You need to give more info about your plans to get any more tailored advice really.

Regards

Welcome to Pprune Wannabees! I deleted your other thread as it was in danger of being hijacked - as you said there was misleading information.

However, whilst the experienced airline professionals here are delighted to help someone start out in the industry they do expect a little 'self-help' by someone doing some research before posting. There are some excellent threads as stickies which will not only answer your questions but will give you a good insight into the industry and its current state. May I ask you to do that - you will find the 'Search function' helps?

Before this thread gets hijacked I am closing it.
