Question JAA CPL renewal Stateside

Guys
I'm a JAA ATPL(H) holder working on helis full-time.

I also have the basic single-engine JAA CPL(A) (No IR) but haven't flown fixed-wing for over 5 years.

My JAA license comes up for renewal next year and I hate to just let the fixed-wing lapse!

I would like to get up to speed and renew the license over in the States.

Any ideas what I will be required to do? And any recommendations for a good school which can renew the JAA ticket?

Apologies if this kind of question has been asked before! I couldn't find anything in the "Stickies".

All you need to do is have a rating current then send off the paperwork to the CAA - so you'd have to do an SE(P) or ME(P) - probably be just as cheap in Europe because all you'll need is one flight or two and the flight with the examiner. It's not a whole CPL again it's just the rating portion required as to "renew your license" is just a paperwork exercise.

Flying for Fun made a good post at : http://www.pprune.org/professional-p...ml#post6404955

Thanks BigGrecian and the link to Flying For Fun's post was very informative.

Yes I had hoped just to do a refresher and then prove to a CFI that I wouldn't try to come to the hover so it's all good news!

Anyone recommend a good US JAA school who could refresh my CPL?

As a JAR licence holder, the method of finding out requirements is no different whether you are talking about "A" or "H". LASORS and/or JAR-FCL 1 (no doubt you are familiar with FCL 2?

If your licence was issued by the CAA, then you cannot renew it in the States. The paperwork and money has to be sent to Gatwick. You use the term licence renewal. Renewal of course refers to a rating that has lapsed. The licence merely needs to be re-issued. JAA take very plain english and somehow use it to confuse, but its one of the easier piloting tasks!
