CAA Inspector Fees...????
Hi All,
Has anyone had the experience of doing a skills test outside of the UK with a CAA inspector? I'm trying to get some idea of the cost of flying him 'overseas' and paying him his 'daily rate' as mentioned by the CAA. No idea as its stated that its all invoiced after the trip. Just wondering if its a case of breaking the bank on getting that invoice...
I'm guessing its just a day to fly him/her out, hotel, meals, travel expense, 'daily rate' etc. Any idea what i'm potentially looking at in terms of cost? Any feedback would be appreciated!!!!!!!!!

Have you tried phoning the CAA and asking them?
(I find the CAA very helpful when I phone to ask them about paying them money....!)

Having worked at the CAA PLD for 4 years prior to joining my airline, I'm pretty confident even the CAA use to at least recommend against this. I don't think they had the man power to really justify the time spent on this - even if it were at no cost to them.
If you're looking at doing an ATPL skill test observed which is what I guess you're talking about, on an rare aircraft with no sims approved in the UK then perhaps they would make an exception. If it's something like an observed test on a 737/320, I think they'll tell you to forget it, and get your butt over to the UK. Again call to check +44 1293 573700.
If you do get them out, don't forget they will be flying 1st class, staying in 5* hotels etc etc- so unless a company is paying for you, and money is of no real concern, it is far cheaper to go to the UK - and the CAA I'm pretty sure would (still) advice the same thing.

It's not (or at least it wasn't bollocks) - you really think if a CAA inspector goes to USA to do an observed flight test, they'll be flying economy and staying in a motel? That my friend is bollocks.

Its definately 1st class ticket and 5 star hotel, taxi's everywhere and overnight allowance. And the daily fee is double what you would normally pay for a TRE.
Only time I have heard of it done, it was 15k for a TRE revalidation of 4 hours in the sim. Two day's positioning and 1 days work but 3 days fees charged.
It really isn't worth it.
