Tow1709, the answer to that question is in the syllabus, in the course material and in the online question banks. It was an air law exam for crying out loud! As previously said, it was also not worth 26%. You failed the exam because you did not know enough of the syllabus.
Also, your rejection of the correct answer to Q12 is, ironically, badly worded, off the point and contradictory. Qualities which you slate the question for!
Whilst you are correct in that lift is not always created downwards (I think you meant upwards), answer (a) is always correct. Lift is ALWAYS created when air is deflectd downwards. It does not say that lift can ONLY act against gravity or that air HAS to be deflected downwards. It simply says that IF air is deflectd downwards, aerodynamic lift is created. Which is true. RTFQ (and A).
Quite funny as keith williams was only just saying that the real problem with ATPLs is that students fail exams and then blame the question bank for their own faliures. You have just proved him correct in textbook fashion!
You are obviously convinced that you are knowledgeable enough to pass the exams and that you were robbed by incorrect questions. I suggest that is probbably not the case.....

It wasn't a real exam, and so I was not robbed!
And I have passed it officially.
I had a few minutes to spare between meetings, so I had a quick go on an on-line exam site I have subscribed to, just for a bit of practice. I didn't even have time to attempt all the questions. Notwithstanding, I would still have got > 75% if I had got this one right. The questions are generated randomly, and I don't remember ever getting this one before.
So I hope this explains the missing 26%.
I wish I hadn't mentioned it at all now - it was only meant as a less-than-serious anecdote. I will choose my words more carefully in future.
EK, yes, I did mean upwards - thank you.
More generally, the point I was trying to make was that someone considering an answer that is expressed in terms of a specific attribute - and knowing that it is not the only possible attribute - might wonder if it was an attempt at a trap and even though the answer is correct, ponder whether there was a better answer among those offered.

Yes, the questions are full of traps and word plays. One has to read them very carefully. They are not the best tests of the knowledge.
That's before one considers the relevance of most of the questions to any kind of actual aviation...
