Hours against IR with CPL?

I have noticed that the FTO's offer 50 hour courses for the IR when a CPL is held rather that the usual 55 hours.

Doesn't the CPL allow a 10 hour reduction? Thats how I read it in Lasors.

The CAA do things in a funny way!

The extra 5 hour reduction, making the IR course 45 hours for holders of a CPL (or those who have met all the requirements for CPL issue), was published in LASORS in December.

Unfortunately, the CAA did not bother to tell the flight schools, the flight school inspectors, or even the flight examiners!

We saw it in January and queried it because it was introduced in JAR FCL version 7, which is not yet incorporated in the ANO. We were told that the CAA could introduce it as the course hours are not included in the ANO.

We therefore changed our syllabus and sent it off to the CAA to get it approved, which happened yesterday.

So, yes you are right, 10 hours dispensation can now be given on the IR course for holders of a CPL (or those who have met all the requirements for CPL issue), making it a 45 hour course instead of 55 hours.

I am sure that most other schools are in the process of getting their new syllabi approved and will publish the reduced course details as soon as they have.

In the meantime, I am sure that for those who have already started a course, they will be allowed to do the 45 hour course rather than the 50 hour course once the school's syllabus is approved.

Multi IR course is 55 hours, with a CPL issued or ALL requirements met for the issue of the CPL the training can be reduced by 10 hours = 45 hours, however if you do not hold a Multi Engine Rating you need to carry that out first which would be the additional minimum 5 hours = 50 hours.

Typhoons disclaimer: This is merely my interpretation of the rules, I could be a total bafoon so don’t take this as gospel.

EDIT: I would go with Linda, seems to know whats she is talking about more than me!

Thanks for that, I didn't realise it was a new thing.

Is the distinction between BIFM & PIFM a new thing also? Do you think the IR course will be split between two seperate BIFM & PIFM courses and could the stand alone BIFM course will eventually replace the IMC?

It is my understanding that the BIFM and PIFM spilt for the IR is no longer going to be implemented (although that is only what I have heard).

Anyway, I could not understand why anyone would want to do it as you got no privileges at all with the BIFM. So no, it would not replace the IMC

Linda is correct , i spotted it in December's issued Lasors that Alex Whittingham linked on here and brought it to my schools attention. I think 45 hours with sim is a big ask to actually complete the course ready for test. Just my thoughts....

I was wondering this too, maybe they see the BIFM as a way of including the 10 hours from the imc rating. Or IMC holders will be granfathered the BIFM certificate when the imc is killed off.
