Aeros Gloucester

Do some of you have recent feedbacks concerning this school. (The latest ones I found on this forum are from 2006)

I haven't been there but I am currently researching schools to do my ME/IR. I have only heard good things about Aeros.

I am very interested to hear what their prices will be once they receive their Technam twins. An IR in this is currently very cheap in Europe and I might even wait to see what they come up with.

I've not been to their base in Gloucester to train with them (only away landings).

However I do fly with them out of Cardiff, they have a good reputation and the aircraft are maintained to the highest standard (what you'd expect from an approved aircraft maintenance company).

I will be doing my IMC next month with them at Cardiff followed by my CPL/ME-IR with them next year at Gloucester

The only personal experience I have with them , its for the RT test and I must say I was not impressed.
The examiner denied to give me a level 6, due to the fact that English is not my mother language.
I have studied at a UK university and I have IELTS and an English Nationality and he said he was very satisfied with my accent and my pronunciation but these are the rules he said.
I have looked to find this regulation but have not managed up to now.
Cannot comment on their flight training but this is what I experienced, instructors that are not up to date with regulations.

Hi CY333,

Out of interest who was the RT examiner? I used to work there and know most of the guys and will see what I can find out if I am friends with the chap/ chapess. Aeros used to use an external examiner (a certain sarcastic friend of mine) who now is ex EGBJ ex EGLL, I think now they have an internal one, not sure who though.

For what it is worth when I used to fly for a European airline with fluent English speakers, the pilots weren't given level 6 on the whole. They were all English speaking from birth. In the end so long as you have level 4 I think it makes cock all difference. A pass or a pass with a bollocking, it's all the same in the end.

Level 6: <<Pronunciation, stress, rhythm, and intonation, though possibly influenced by the first language or regional variation, almost never interfere with ease of understanding. Able to speak at length with a natural, effortless flow. Varies speech flow for stylistic effect, e.g. to emphasize a point. Uses appropriate discourse markers and
connectors spontaneously.>>

The school is very good. I fly quite a lot at Aeros (wellesbourne) and recently completed my CPL at Gloucester. The school has a very good reputation and i achieved a first time pass in minimum hours over 3 weeks full time (the weather pretty good and i managed to fly most days). As mentioned training was very good and I plan to go back for my IR next year.

This year I did my CPL, FI and have 10 hours of my MEIR left to do at Aeros Gloucester, good aircraft, good facillities, excellent instructors, their own maintainance over the taxiway is a BIG plus. I looked at at few schools, AEROS had the right 'feel' and are a very profesional school.

CY333.

A standard CAA RT Examiner cannot give you a Level 6 in English, if English is not your mother tongue. The examiner for this has to have a special language qualification. Nor can a FE upgrade you to Level 6 at renewals. The person who is not upto date is you!

Can you explain then how do other Europeans, some of them friends of mine,
got their frozen ATPL in the UK and actually Oxford and got a level 6 and how can you say English is not my mother tongue when both parents English, born in the UK BUT went to a non non English speaking speaking school, that was the ground he used.
I will get Level 6 on my next check but thats not the point here is it?
Can you justify this?
Thats the experience I had with them.
If this guy is working or not for AEROS, thats not my concern, my experience with them was as I said.

Oh not to forget to say that the examiner that examined me on my CPL, found this to be quite stupid and the RT examiner not been familiar with current regulations.Thats a direct quote.

I did my CPL with them back in 2008. Duncan was my instructor and he was a superb instructor and a very friendly person. Aeros was the friendliest FTO I had approached before I started my CPL. Staverton airport is arguably the best training airfield in the country with instrument approach procedures, 3 rwys and radar facilities, no unnecessary delays at holding points. All instructors were very experienced and dedicated and they had excellent ops staff. I highly recommend Aeros.

Which part of britannia 66s post do you not understand? A non native English speaker, to achieve Level 6 English, must take an English test with an Aviation English Language Examiner. It is unlikely that a FE or RT Examiner will hold this qualification ... I don't. I can upgrade a native English speaker to Level 6 (but only a native speaker). Reread the JAA/EASA rules. I presume you covered them for your ATPL exams. Unfortunately not all countries are keeping the rules!
My experience of Aeros is that they are excellent.

I am native English speaking or which part my posts you did not pick up.I was in a RAF base until I was 22.Just because my parents thought it would be good to learn another language and send me to the local school does not make a non English language native and please dont patronize me.I am not bothering with this again its pointless.Wish you a Happy New Year.

If English is your mother tongue, you can be upgraded to Level 6 English by any Flight Examiner at any future renewal, eg IR/Type Rating etc, by simply ticking a box. The question is .... Is English your mother tongue? That is how the rules are written.

Mojave 90,

I will probably do the IR in June or July depending on work commitments. I noticed several people have mentioned Duncan was their instructor on their CPL course. I also had Duncan and would recommend him however all the CPL instructors are very good and I would not be worried about training with any of them.
