Some might consider the challenge to be finding anywhere the rating is usable.

He spoke the truth.

The type is outdated and the A/C banned from many countries due to noise.

I got a -200 type back in 91 and paid about $7K (US) then, that included renting the jet @ $39.00 per minutte as the simulator was 2 axes and not approved for landings.

If you are going to plunk down dough for a rating, try a more modern one that can give you return on the money..

B737-200

I fully understand that we don't have many operators with 732s but I have someone willing to employ me as FO in Africa, I thought it'd be very good opportunity to start with, considering the fact that I only have over 400TT.
I can later get a difference rating and try elsewhere.

I see/hear many ppl paying for latest versions of 737 or even the A320 n finding it too hard to find a job as employers normally like 500hr on type.

Cheers

Apart from Africa, it's also used in SE Asia / China.

Just about to mention Higher Power, but someone's beaten me to it. I did an NG rating with them last year. Good setup and nice people. Drop them a line.

I am afriad that you cannot do a differences course to a Classic or NG rating. You would have to do the whole TR again. See JAR FCL. Most recruiters that want jet time want modern FMC/EFIS time too.

Sciolistes - point noted, thanks for that.

Can anyone provide some info on B732 TR in South Africa, so far one of the pruners told me that Comair Training Centre provides a B732 TR using a Cat C simulator and base check shd be organised, he also informed that Ground School can be done at Comair and hire SIM from SAA. Has anyone gone down that path?

Also, I see that PanAm Aviation Academy, Miami offers B732 TR for around $8000, anyone been there?

thx, appreciate all ur posts, thx again.

European Skybus

I did my MCC on the 732 at European Skybus Ltd in Bournemouth, I am not sure if you can do a TR on it but worth contacting them. It would be a good place to do it from if you are in the UK.

sorry to hijack the thread tocum, but i am also looking at doing a TR this year, but not 100% clued up on TR and license's to different country? If i have FAA atp, or an ICAO south African license, can i pay for a TR in the UK or KL, and put it on one of those licenses? and after all of that use it for say in the middle east or such? im stumped to how this system all works?!

Hi,
Comair will offer you the the ground and simulator training at a cost of about 23,000 dollars so if you arrange for a partner it will come down to about 13,000 dollars. I did the course with them in August 2010 and I had to be there for almost two and half months.

Cost for TR Classic, I have seen around £11.500 + Base check £6000 + VAT.

And to do get NG from Classic you do a differences course, approx. 8 hours in sim and ground-school, seen it quoted for around £1600.

These are prices I have seen if you just search around, pretty much average European prices.

Several companies in Europe also fly the classic, Astraeus, Norwegian, to mention a few.

Who said you could not do a differences course, to get the NG?

As a little extra note, maybe a job in Africa if you have a rating, unless you know this company very well, take this with a pinch of salt, there are loads of scammers out there promising a lot, when you get the 737 rating they might say if you only had an Airbus rating too! If you get my drift, be careful, there are loads who give empty promises, some written might not even be worth the paper they are written on.

So make sure you do your research properly first, I have heard few horror stories of African dreams gone pretty sour for various reasons!
A promise does not mean to much, maybe you get a TR, but without hours it is not worth to much, maybe you get a job, but discover major maintaines issues, airworthiness issues etc., I have met many people in business life who have promised me the sky, the moon and whatever else, just make sure your contact is not a bull****ter!
