Ground School Course - Residential

Hello.
I'm a student Helicopter pilot, but I'm one of those people whom are having a few problems with the ground school. Mainly retention of the information as well as finding time to do it.

I'm in surrey, but could travel (if not too far).

Google shows lots of ground school places and various prices etc but its a bit over welming.

I'd like a resident course, i.e stay away from home without any distractions etc. and come back with the exam passes after a few days. I already have Law & Human Performance.

Has anyone got any experiance or recomendations of such courses.

You are talking about the JAA exams?

A residential course for the ATPL(H) (should you find one) would be around 27 weeks.

Yes, I'm talking about the JAA exams.

I've seen many adverts claiming a week course and guranteed passes, but I'm wondering what the quality of the training might be and whether they just spoon feed the answers to the exams and leave out the background. I want the background!

I dont want short cuts, just a dedicated learing enviorment with no destractions, self study isnt working for me.

Are you talking about a Private Pilots Licence(H) or Airline Transport Pilots Licence(H)??

You shall be very lucky to find an ATPL(H) full-time course, there are several providers of ATPL(A) full-time though. These courses however they are structured end up taking about 6-7 months.

There is no such thing as a guaranteed pass, any such claims should be viewed as best as mis-leading advertising or twisting of results!

The one week course you mention would apply only to a distance learning course. Once you have completed all your course material and assesments it is a JAA requirement you attend some form of full-time tuition at your course provider.

This week or two is ofter refered to as a "brush-up" course where the key essentials of the exam are should be focused upon. This should put you in a strong position to probably (NOT GUARANTEED) pass the exams.

But as VFR Transit says is this for PPL or ATPL?

I have had a number of ATPL students who have done a week PPL course, then later come on to ATPL, unfortunately their lack of basic knowledge is alarming.

PPL(H) is what I'm aiming for.

I've tried the confusers and airquiz, problem with these is that they are written by people using correctly structured sentences and without the CAA's flair to delibratly word in a confusing way.

Well if it is PPL(H) then you need to have this moved to the PRIVATE FLYING forum

But to help you in answering your question you could always try derek davidson ground school who will be able to help you on a 5 day course and you only pay for the test once you have passed the exam.

A quick SEARCH on these forums will give you loads of information about Derek and his wife Claire
