ATPL Study Books & CD's
Guys,
Im sure this question has got asked but i'm looking for some opinions and guidance.
I have 1300 hours TT with a FAA Multi CPL/IR and also a European PPL. I am looking at trying to convert my FAA to a JAR licence.
I'm aware firstly I need to do the ground exams. With that in mind could someone tell me if I do home study whether i can do this solely by getting things like the OAT CD's from Transair or do I need to buy all the book too ?
Any advise on where to even started would be very much appreciated

Not sure if this applies to conversions, but what I do know is that the ATPL courses, even via distance learning still require some classroom study time. I don't think you could just take the exams without meeting this requirement? Unless of course it is slightly different with conversions?
If you end up on a course, the FTO will have their preferred material which is usually included in the course cost. A few providers do have multimedia only courses with no books so I suspect you could just get the CD's and learn from them.
I think your best bet is to have a read of LASORS. Hope this helps!

I believe (but do not quote me!) that once you have reached a certain threshold you can go down the 'self study with no brush up' route with the consent of the UK CAA and your study materials supplier. This could apply only to ATPL conversions - like I said, don't quote me!
Get in touch with the UK CAA. If this is the case, make sure you have any dispensations in writing from the CAA.
Update: Section D1.5 of LAS 2008 covers non JAR CPL(A) conversion requirements; E1.2 (page 4) of LAS 2008 covers conversion of ICAO IR to JAR IR.
