Atlantic Airlines - Latest?
Hi!
Considering applying for Atlantic Airlines Cadet Scheme at Multiflight. One of the most recent threads talks about Cadets being shown the door... Could anyone tell me the latest situation regarding this and whether or not it is a good scheme etc?

I will tell want I know of the scheme though my knowledge is a couple years out of date.
In the past there has been the odd occasion where one or two fuglies were dismissed prior to completing the CPL/IR phase due to not been considered suitable for the company; however the key event was probably back in 2008 when the company was going through a "bad patch" and used financial reasons as an excuse to delay some of the fuglies flight training.
Some of these cadets at this point who may have already already served 12-18 months of fug duties were told the flight training would be delayed until further notice. They were given the choice of leaving or remaining on fug duties with the possibility of flight training been resumed at an undetermined later date.
In the past I believe the scheme fully funded the flight training which the cadet received in return for working as drivers and general assistants in the company followed by a five year bond once on the line. Now I am led to believe the scheme does now require a finanicial contribution to the training cost. The fugs now also receive minimum wage to avoid any legal action should the cadet be dismissed prior to the flight training.
All in all for those that are young it is a good scheme. The hours flown on night freight are low. However Poose if you are 29 as your profile suggests then I would look to other options.

Thanks for the feedback - just considering all of my options with respect to my current situation... Which is being made redundant a fortnight before Xmas by my large Preston based Defence Contractor employer.
At the end of the day the prize is and remains CPL/IR...
12 ATPLs in, 180hrs PPL and now this happens...

Poose, I assume you are in Engineering? Whats your specialisation? There is plenty of Engineering contract work Bristol way at the moment. If your single then 18 to 24 months of engineering contracting could easily see you raise cash for a CPL/IR, type rating and line training package.

Sorry to hear about your redundancy Poose. I'm in a similar position. Been working in Employability / skills training helping the unemployed back into work for the last 5 months but sadly my contract expires after xmas. Been applying for all sorts / put my latest CV on every job site going... can I get a new contract or perm position ! Can I **** :/
Supposedly going to be a lot of people getting laid off in the new year from the public sector meaning an increase in the need for employability tutors so hopefully that will improve my situation a bit. Kinda sad really !

Remember no recruitment will happen just before christmas, you should see things pick up in the new year. I am confident the UK aerospace industry (on the design and analysis side of things) still has three to five good years left. Eventually we will be priced out by the Indian and Chinese sub-contract companies.

Poose, I believe we probably work/worked for the same Preston based company. Whilst my job is for the time being safe I am definetly not counting my chickens. I wish you the best of luck finding any work you can!!
I am also interested in the Cadet Scheme at Multi flight but one of the requirements is a clean driving license which I don't have. Do you think this would be a sticking point or could they be persuaded if everything else went well?

my God, how do you guys manage to survive?.
I see many young guys around me, with no job, no opportunities, living with less than 1000 $ a month! these flying schemes are collapsing leaving place to P2F scheme!
most fresh graduated pilots rely still on their parents or girlfriend's house to survive.Living with small part time job after 2 years!.
20 years ago, it was hard too, but if you stick in aviation long enough, guys were landing job on small planes, at least we were flying in Africa, in US as a flight instructor, .... But now, most guys sit at home waiting for better days!.
