I would highly recommend it, four friends and I went out there last august, hired 3 Cessna 172's and between us we built 300 hours over 4 weeks and got to visit 24 different US States.
I see that you are based in Ireland but see if you can get a copy of April's Edition of of "Flyer" magazine and turn to page 48 as there is a 5 page story about our trip

Hi,
I did my hour-bulding over in California back in the summer of 2007 - flew out of Montgomery Field, San Diego. Try 'Plus One Fliers' at MYF - they're still there as far as I know - I block-booked a PA-28 from them for five weeks, including some days off R&R and flew in excess of 120 hours, including trips to Las Vegas, San Francisco, Palm Springs and a whole host of other places around LA. I went over with a JAR-PPL, did a check-out flight with an instructor at MYF, and that was it.
I did a LOT of research about flying out in the States and in CA in particular, and would recommend it a lot more than Florida - I do think the flying is likley to be more interesting and certainly more interesting. It does cost a bit more to get there though! Do think about when you want to go and avoid the July/Aug summer season if you can - I didn't! It can get uncomfortably hot (and bumpy) over the desert!
Safe flying.

Hi,
I have the intention of doing some hour building (about 50 hours) in California over the summer and I am (actually there is four of us) currently in the process of finding some decent place that has enough C-152s and C-172s/PA-28s for some decent price. I found some flight schools on the internet and I would like to know if any of you have any recent experience and could recommend us any of the following flight schools.
Nice Air Aviation
American Aviation Academy
CP Aviation
Long Beach Flying Club
Cal Aggie Flying Farmers
Ahart Aviation Services
Flying Vikings
California Flight Academy
Scandinavian Aviation Academy
Sierra Academy of Aeronautics
I already found here on PPRuNe (though many of the posts were already quite old) some mixed reviews on AAA, found one post on Cal Aggie, little something on LBFC, few good reviews on Ahart Aviation but I am mostly interested in Nice Air Aviation, CP Aviation or Cal Aggie, since there isn't much about them yet. Anyone got any experience with them?
Thanks!
