Cheapest JAA Flight Training.

Guy's I am interested in doing my Flight Training (JAA) soon. I am sure this question has been asked a couple of times, but I am desperate and could not find anything regarding this to satisfy my questions. have become pretty frustrated searching all over the net.

Could you please tell me the fastest and the most cheapest place to do my Flight Training from zero to fATPL(JAA)..I have checked out a few schools in the UK but they are to expensive as the renting of A/C is double the price.

If it's possible to suggest a good cheap Flying School some where across Europe(JAA member) would be highly appreciated.

I have checked out a few schools in Latvia. But it seems only a few of them are permitted to train student up to fATPL level. If anyone has any info on the same please be kind to share it with me.

I also have some quires on licensing

1) Could you tell me if it's possible PPL(jaa) start answering the 14atpl subjects while building hours or do I have to have a ME/IR with the PPL.

2) How long is the PPL valid and how many hours do I need to keep it current every year.

3) After completing all the 14 fATPL subjects how long do I have to build up the 1500 hrs to get my ATPL valid.

4) If I do my flight training ie. PPL and ME/IR in South Africa, could you please tell me the conversions of the same to a JAA license.

Well guys I hope you can help me as I am in desperate need of information..

Cheapest way to do JAA training is IMHO Texas, Skymates!

can only advise on part of this.

generally, people do any ICAO PPL, not a JAR PPL, then commence he JAR ATPL theory and CPL, etc.

This makes it slightly cheaper, faster and, depending on which ICAO PPL, this PPL will not expire (eg. FAA, here the night qualification is included too).

You do not require an ME nor IR to to hour build, the ICAO PPL is sufficient.

Cheapest...quickest?

Try thinking about best quality you can find in the budget you have available.

The answers to your other questions can be found easily in LASORS/JAR FCL 1

By the way, Skymates don't do JAA training, so not much point going there unless you want FAA training.

This has has been covered many times before Ste88:

Skymates are NOT JAA approved. Check the UK CAA website for details.

CATS has an approval to run ATPL groundschool there - big deal - it is still FAA training.
You could study the groundschool with any distance learning provider for cheaper.

It's a marketing con - it is not JAA flight training you will receive - be extremely careful.

If you wanted to go the modular route, you should look at Old Sarum Flying School for your PPL. They offer a full PPL course for under 6k, I think this rivals the States when you factor in flights accomodation etc.

Hello,

Indeed, Skymates is only approved for FAA training.
But they made a partnership with CATS for the JAA ATPL (distance learning and residential in-house full time since September 2009) and after you have your PPL, CPL FAA and IR FAA, you've to do your ATPL JAA there (or you can do it where you want) and to do your pratical for your conversion in PFT based in Bournemouth (UK).

Yes!!

Sorry you are right. I mean that they offer a course FAA/JAA both included with 36k€.
This is the cheaper way to get both licenses

ATPL can be do there and the convertion plus MCC at Bournemouth..

You can do this with any Part 61 training provider though. Implying that this is JAA training is just marketing thorough peoples lack of knowledge.

You can go to the states and do an FAA PPL with any Mom and Pop flying school, you can then study ATPL distance learning whilst training for FAA Commercial and Instrument, again at ANY Part 61 school, or even with just any old CFI/CFII who happens to have access to an aircraft. When you go back to JAA land to do your conversions, how much JAA flight training have you received? The square root of f... all!!!!

Cheapest on paper will not work out cheapest in the end I'm afraid.

1) You can start the ATPL ground school after you have an ICAO / JAA PPL.

2) Your single engine piston class rating would be valid for 2 years. During year preceeding the expiry of class rating you'd have to fly 12 hours.

3) Impossible to answer. You have to build up hours for as long as it takes to meet the ATPL requirements. However at this point of training it should be the least of your consern

4) JAA ATPL theory, CPL course, JAA ME & IR conversion.

Be aware that under the JAA rules you must have 500 hours Multi Crew time before they will award an ATPL. You must also undergo an ATPL practical exam in a Multi Crew sim/aircraft. In other words, you can't reasonably obtain a JAA ATPL until you have had a Multi Crew job for a year or so - and your employer will make you wait until your next LPC for the check ride. In the meantime the clock is ticking on those writtens if you don't keep the IR current.....
