Hola DC3freightpooch...

So you want to blow more money, this time on 320 or 737 rating...?
Well, the depressed industry will appreciate. Get your dough ready.
Where will they hire you with a rating but zilch hours is my question.
xxx
First considerations. The odds for you in USA are better with the 737.
There are more old 737s flying with non-skeds than there are 320s.
Same overseas, Africa or South America, some areas of Asia.
xxx
The other thing is the cost. The 737 appears to be cheaper than the 320.
I heard of 737 ratings sold at a cost, all inclusive of about $7,000.
I honestly believe there is a hoax with 320 TRTOs in the USA.
TRTOs dream about all these European kids coming loaded with €€€...
So, the 320 ratings are priced in proportion of the wallet of customers.
Might be wrong, but heard $20,000 for a 320 type rating.
For me, a 737NG sim, or a 320 sim should be same operating cost...
So should be about same price... is it...?
xxx
There might be some 320 jobs in India and the Middle East.
But really, with zero time... would surprise me you would be hired.
Many guys with time/experience are on furlough right now. Both types.
If they apply with these carriers, they will get the job, not you.
xxx
You are rated CE-500 - Try to survive on the Slotation...
Until Obama fixes it all, and GM sells a few big 4x4 V8 SUVs again.
Or dumps few more trillions, this time to refinance the bankrupt TRTOs.
xxx
Good luck
Happy contrails

I thought that buying a type rating was only for low hour pilots to make them more intersting for airlines.
Are you not able to get a job with an airline with your 4800 hours? Maybe you can be to get a job with a paid type rating. Also you write within 10 years... so start sending out CVs

Bought A320 and still.........
My experience so far is without time in type it is a waste of money!
I have 22 years heavy jet/international time and 15000 hours all in Jurassic jets!
Bought the A320 type but can't get anyone to look beyond the "no time in type" issue. Most want 300-500 hours in type, prefer PIC to even get interview or even to accept a CV! Been looking for 7 months to no avail!
Buy the type and you will get responses but without the actual time they will blow you off.

Without time on type, preferably 500 hours
You will be wasting your hard earned cash.
Get a year on type and it makes a big difference.
As a poster said in Europe the airlines are going away from Boeing, because of their higher costs overall.

Thanks for your input, B737 vs A320
Thank you for your input. This great forum has many knowlegable people and i apreciate your comments.
To BelArgUSA the "depressed industry" is perfect for getting your typ rating at a reduced price. So far I got a B737 typrating offer, all inclusive for under $6000. Jan 09
Since i have family in Europe the European market is also interesting for me.
Are there any B737 or A320 specific internet sides or forums?
Thanks

If you go for the A320, make sure you get the float and glider option as well.
