Post Loran C

Hi

I’m in the middle of my ATPL ground school and am just doing radio nav but it says Loran C was suppose to be shut down in 2000 but has been held off to the end of 2008. Now that it’s the end of 2008, does anyone know if it has been phased out and if so is it worth learning or is it being taken off the exams??

Many thanks

There was at least one question on Loran C in December 2008's Radio Nav exam. Don't expect the exam questions to keep pace with recent developments

Depending on Database/Question Bank

If you see a question in the database/question bank of your FTO I would recommend you know/study the answer ANY question in your official database may be asked, so a LORAN C question (if in the database) has a fair chance of being randomly picked for the official exam.

LORAN is making a comeback as version II, combined with GPS, since LORAN's signals are less easily jammed. I would certainly know the basics.
