Hi,


If holding a JAA CPL/IR then pass at ATPL(A) level valid for 7 years from date of IR.


Can some please explain this?

Because those are the rules.... if you can find any reason behind the "7 year" thing, you're a better man than many of us. It's 7 years from your last IR renewal though, not simply 7 years from initial issue. Providing your IR stays current, so does your ATPL credit.

It means you've got 7 years to get the hours experience requirement for an issue of an ATPL from CPL/IR with ATPL theory. If you don't get the required 1,500 hours etc, then you'd have to redo the ATPL exams.

I don't see how that can be correct Whirls as everytime you renew the IR your ATPL theory credits are valid for a further 7 years regardless of whether you attain the ATPL or not, unless i've missed something?

Indeed. Providing you don't let your IR expire by more than 7 years your ATPL theory credit is valid indefinitely. How the 7 year figure was decided on is however anyone's guess.
