Orlando Flight Training Residential ATPL Course

Hello everyone, just doing a little research on fulltime atpl schools at the moement and I found OFT in Florida for doing the atpl's. Does anyone have any views or information about doing atpl's with OFT. Your comments would be very much appreciated.

Oft Atpl

hey!
im at oft right now, all i can say is that place has gone down the toilet big time. i was told it was good and when i first arrived it was ok but now its gone off the plot.
the instructors for ATPL are good but the cabair manuals they give might aswell be used for toilet paper but saying that even the instructors admit that and it isn't there fault they give out the own presentations and work with what they have got.
plane wise there always in the workshop getting fixed, i honestly think they spend more time on the ground than they do in the air. trying to book a plane right now is impossible there booked 2weeks in advance sometimes and if you get the plane it will iva be in the workshop or you will be scrubbed off because the instructor needs it for a lesson.
right now OFT seem to be wanting to take your money but dont want to train you!! you can say there a bit like the CAA take your money every way possible but dont help you out.
ATPL exams are taken at another location so if you dont have any transport your in the sh*t because OFT dont give you transport to the exams and for what your paying i think they should!
alot of people have complained about that place even Cabair students from the UK. i really hope OFT bucks there ideas up because their reputation is really bad at the moment and it will hurt them in the long run.

what about the (JAA) PPL students

Do you know about the PPL students? I guess it's not the same airplanes. Are they also grounded half of the time? Are they able to do their 45 hours in 3 weeks? Can you tell us more about the problem cuz I was maybe planning to go there early 2009. Thanks

RE: jaa ppl students

hey im just back from oft after doin my ppl (faa) and i was living with a lot of guys who were doing jaa ppl over at euroflight. Can i just say that place promise you the earth with their 3 week ppl course, but from what ive seen and the guys iv talked to (2 in particular) instructors come and go holding you and you progress up. Planes and maintenance are a complete joke, and the guys who came out hoping to finish in 5 weeks are still there. they came in july.

If you want my advice, do faa, i found oft to be 'ok', nothing special, still money grabbers, but at least i can fly freely in the us now, and still fly here as its an icao ppl.

Also from what i heard about atpl students, like above, manuals are rubbish, and you'd be better off using the question bank alone! im doing bgs distance learning and i don't regret it one bit. Bristol know what they're about!

Thank you for your replies guys. That confirms the general feeling I had about the school when reading the forums.

Good to know

kind of agree high flyer.
im doing the whole jaa integrated course but FAA PPL (not much different from JAA).
i fly almost twice a day, and had no problems with the a/c. they r old but well maintained (like in every fbo).
good flight and ground instructors.

its up to the individual. if wanna make it u will...no matter what. just check ur account every once in a while and try to get the most out of u. learning how to fly is all about training, no one will stick it in ur head neither u ll be forced to develop certain skills.
