Air Law and ATC questions.

Hi,

I have a few questions which I came across in the Volare Question Bank and I have a few doubts. Here are the questions:

Q220) DONE
An ATS airspace where IFR and VFR are permitted and
receive flight information service if requested, is
classified as
A) Airspace C
B) Airspace E
C) Airspace G
D) Airspace F

Q212) PENDING
According to JAR-FCL, Class 2 medical certificate for
private pilots will be valid for
A) 24 months until age of 40, 12 months until age of 60 and 6
months thereafter
B) 60 months until age of 30, 24 months until age of 50, 12
months until age of 65 and 6 months thereafter (mark scheme answer)
C) 60 months until age of 30, 24 months until age of 40, 12
months thereafter
D) 24 months until age of 40, 12 months thereafter

[I think the answer is A)]

Q64) DONE
During an instrument approach, the minimum obstacle
clearance (MOC) of the initial approach segment primary
area is equal to :
A) 300 m (984 ft)
B) 210 m (690 ft)
C) 120 m (394 ft)
D) 150 m (492 ft)

Q405) DONE
The longitudinal separation minima between aircraft
departed from the same aerodrome and following the
same track, and the preceeding aircraft is maintaining a
true airspeed of 40 kt or more faster than the succeeding
aircraft, is:
A) 5 minutes.
B) 10 minutes.
C) 8 minutes.
D) 3 minutes.

Q319) PENDING
Upon receipt of the modification and a request by the
state of occurrence for participation, the state of design
and the state of manufacture shall in the case of an
accident or serious incident inform the state of
occurence of the name of its representative to be
present at the investigation when the aircraft :
A) Has a maximum mass over 27.000 kg
B) Has a maximum mass over 5 700 kg
C) Has a maximum mass over 2 250 kg
D) Has a maximum mass over 100.000 kg (mark scheme answer)

[According to my book, there is no mention of 100.000kg, only 2250kg]

Q290) DONE
An integrated aeronautical information package consists
of the following elements
A) AIP, including amendment service; supplements to AIP;
NOTAM and pre-flight information bulletin (PIB); AIC;
checklists and summuries

B) AIP, including amendment service; supplements to AIP,
NOTAM, AIC and checklist summaries

checklist summaries

NOTAM, AIC; AIRAC

Q276) DONE
Which of the following is NOT an international distress
frequency ?

D) 243.0 MHz

From a cursory look at the questions (i.e. without checking the details), I would reckon the answer schemes are correct and therefore, I would start to question the reference books you are using.

Definitely Q212, 290 and 276 are correct per the marking scheme so if there are errors in your learning material, you should take this up with your groundschool.

I notice that you have posted a few threads questioning the Volare answers but maybe the manuals need to be checked.

Q405) according to my book it's correct 3 minutes for the same track and the preceeding aircraft is maintaining a true airspeed of 40 kt or more faster.
Q220) Advisory Service on space F ..I don't know!
Q212) JAR–FCL 3.105 Period of validity of medical certificates
Class 2 medical certificates,
60 months until age
[ ][40], then 24 months
until age 50 and 12 months thereafter.
But on my database B is correct.

Okay, I'll be a bit more specific regarding my doubts.

Q405)
I also would consider the 3 minute answer correct, but one condition isn't met for it to be 3 minutes. Yes it's true that
the longitudinal separation minima between aircraft
departed from the same aerodrome and following the same track, and the preceeding aircraft is maintaining a true airspeed of 40 kt or more faster than the succeeding aircraft, is 3 minutes but given that the navigation aids permit frequent determination of position and speed. Perhaps I'm being to picky with the questions but that would be the correct answer then.

Can someone explain what they mean by "including an amendment services"?

Q276)
What is the frequency 2.182 Khz used for? I know that 121.5 Mhz is the civil distress frequency, 243.0 Mhz is the military distress frequency but unsure of 2.182 Khz.

With many of the JAA questions, you pick the one that is least wrong!

An amendment service is where any updates are regularly sent through to the subscriber.

2.182 kHz is, I believe, a maritime distress frequency.

Well then I guess regarding Q405) my book is wrong in that it says 2 minutes. Right, only two questoins left: Q212) and Q319).
