Aptitude Test

After 2 years at my dead job as a Graphic Designer/Computer Programmer am seriously considering moving on and doing something that I would enjoy.

However I am now 28 years old and am scared to switch careers and take up flying on a full time. I was wondering whether there was an aptitude test or something that I could take to see how well I would do as a career pilot? I have logged 0 flight hours and have logged 30 minutes on an ALSIM flight simulator!

Any ideas or suggestions?

I would say it is more of an enjoyment thing versus aptitude. Is being a career pilot something you are going to enjoy long term? The learning how to fly is the easy part!

But if you want to see if you possess the aptitude, take a few flight lessons. It might cost you $500 or so, but at least you can see it is for you before you plunk down $65k to become a professional pilot.

Sunny,

I seriously suggest you invest in a GAPAN Assessment. The test is designed to predict your chances of getting through flight training. It does not test your personality, just your raw aptitude for high workload instrument flight but is intended for people with no (or very little) flying experience. You also get a personal de-brief by an experienced pilot who will help guide your initial decisions.

My positive experience of this test is consistent with my experience and success in more focused assessments, such as PILAPT as used by organisations such as CTC.

I got a lot out of it, I even used it to secure some funding. It went down well in my interview too.

Good luck.
