faa multi engine ppl

hi guys,

just a quick question on an idea i have.i hold a uk cpl .as far as i know you cant add a multi engine rating to a restricted ,thats what i was told by a florida school at the flyer show.i could do a multiengine faa ppl in the states on the same twin aircraft for 3000 pounds and get about 20 hours before starting my me/ir here in the uk . i am thinking it would make the transition to twins easier and i should be able to do my uk me/ir on the the minimums hours eg21 hours. making it a lot cheaper cos every one i know seems to go over hours and twins are costly things to hire.
good idea or madness?
