Life after Degree???

hi all i have a question i want to get your opinions onl.

After finishing my leaving cert(irish version of a levels) i went through all the selection processes and even tried malgus. anyways after a year of no joy i decided to go to uni and get my degree and see what happened then. I'm now nearly finished and have decided that there is only one career in the world i want and thats of an airline pilot. I know exactly what i'm letting myself in for eg having to work for a year and then go about my training some way. But im just kind of scared of what my parents are going to say. They are going to go mad i know but its all i want to do. Should i tell them now and say thats it im doing that no matter if it kills me or should i wait and tell them once i have been accepted to a flight school.

Sorry if this is wasting your time but i just wanted to hear some of ur advice.

the best would be to do a private license, and see if you like it or not.

Firstly, get a bit more confident, if your age is correct I wouldn't of believed it from that post.

My opinion is that you do some planning, go have a couple of trial flights and see how it goes. If you enjoy them then brush up on your basic mental maths and physics and apply to your chosen FTO. Obviously spending £500 on the above is better then jumping the gun and spending £60k+

Once this has gone through, then sit down with your parents and explain why you have chosen that and how you will manage it / afford it. Obviously you may require some of their help so don't tell them to get lost or disappointed in what they say ;-)

Just do your planning, research and learning and I don't see why your parents will go mad. Worst case scenario you drop out of X school and you are left with £70K of debt. It is not the end of the world and your degree will help you in the job world and help pay this off.

Remember, just be confident and work hard.

Hope it works out for you.

What have you been doing for the past 6 months since graduation?

Personally I think you have missed the boat with the economy slowing - I would wait a couple of years at least until we have weathered the coming recession.

There is no reason for your parents' opinion to weigh in this matter at all - unless they are funding you, make your own decisions and live with them.
