Confidence (complete loss of!!)
Hi all,
I am in somewhat of a predicament at the moment. It all started about two months ago when embarking upon my fi course. I went up on the pre entry flight test with a certain individual on the South coast who is reverred for being a sod and basically the guy battered the hell out of my confidence. The whole flight was a tyrade of verbal abuse and put down. Since then I have have lost all will and confidence to fly. I even feel nervous going near an aircraft! I havent flown in that two months either.
The funny coincidence is that this individual had the audasity to bang on about the importance of good cockpit cohesion the day before and not to stress your student out! Words from the mouth of the guy who has possibly finished my flying!
Basically, how can I get back in the saddle again and get off the ground? Has anyone else had a similar experience?
Thoughts and help would be much appreciated.
Many thanks

Right Expedite08, listen up...
Go to that place where you keep safe stuff like licence, logbook etc. and take out that brown or blue book. You know, the one you paid the folks at Gatwick to issue. OK, what does it say on it. Actually, I'll point out the two important words here - 'Pilot Licence'.
You see, someone (who knew their stuff), saw enough from you to say, yep, they'll do. Thing is, you have to be of a good standard to have a licence granted (I'm still stunned that they think I can do this for dough ) - just because you've had a run in with someone who sounds a bit of a grumpy grouch, doesn't change the fact that you can fly.
I've not been in your shoes, and certainly haven't got your patience (or cash!) to do an FI rating - I wouldn't be much cop. But you've stood up and had a go, and for that I applaud you.
Best thing you can do is get back out there immediately. Try somewhere else and see how the land lies. Any school worth anything will be willing to listen to your concerns and worries before they've even taken a bean off you. Feel comfortable on the ground before you can start to feel comfortable back in the skies. I know that being a pilot and instructing pilots are two different worlds - but all the folks that I know that have done the FI course enjoyed it, and your experience doesn't sound like others that I've heard.
There is no magic answer to this - you have to confront the issue and fly through it. And, you know what, I reckon you can do it.
Go for it and prove those who say you can't wrong!

always remember you are the CUSTOMER. if your not happy to spend YOUR money at a flight school, there are plenty of other flight schools who believe that the customer at the end of the day pays their wages. go somewhere else.

Chin up old bean, you have proved yourself to the people who count, ie the CAA examiners, your family and friends, but most of all yourself..
Most people you meet in this industry are all like minded and great people, but like everywhere there is a bellend...dont take it to heart if it is who I think it is then your not the only one and certainly wont be the last!!
The fact that he has thrown you shows you have the attitude that takes things personaly, a good trait in being an instructor..you care about people and what they say...
Get back in the air a nice trip somewhere, enjoy it and rebuild that confidence that got you to the position your in fATPL...You dont get them issued for nothing you know

First, this jerk sounds like a real arse. This was a terrible way to learn an important lesson and I'm not saying he did this on purpose just to teach you such a lesson. If you remember to not ever do this kind of rubbish to your future students, you will at least have learned something useful from the b^&+^rd.

You are all posting as if expedite has no blame the poor little lamb! Maybe its time you pulled your socks up, or finger out expedite! After all this is a profession, not Sunday school! Show this guy what you are made of and if you are any good, he will soon start singing your praises. Good luck!
