Question Training

What is the best way for going about CPL/ATPL training?
I am currently studying for GCSE's and need help on where to go from then. eg what A levels do you need to work for say British Airways, and when I have left school what is the best way to get the necessary qualifications to become a commercial pilot? I understand training is extremely expensive and is there any other alternatives to paying the £50,000 or so for training?
Any pilots out there who want to tell me how they got to where they are now please step forth...

Thanks

James
