Atlantic Flight Training

I'm planning on doing my JAA conversions at Atlantic Flight Training at Coventry airport, does anyone have any experience in training there? Was planning on doing the distance ATPLs at Bristol to stick with the tried-and-tested, as i've yet to hear of anyone doing the exams at Coventry. All advice appreciated!

Hello Canadapilot,

I will be doing my CPL/ME conversion skills test at Coventry this summer. I have a Canadian Licence myself and have finished all the JAA ATPL exams at London Metropolitan University. I found London Met to be good, the instructors have a lot of experience. Also, given the fact that I was living in London at the time - it was convenient and the price was not bad at all.

Have you been to Coventry yet? Taken any tests....?

Let us know what it is like...any info is greatly appreciated!

Happy landings!

There are plenty of people who do/did their exams with Atlantic; including myself!! Atlantic have good results and are helpful. If you're doing the flying training there, wouldn't it make sense to do the ground school there as well?

Cheers

I did the distance groundschool with Atlantic and on the whole, I was very pleased. They were very flexible in working around my personal needs (in terms of re-structuring modules, fitting in brush-ups etc.) and we're generally very responsive when questions (often!) arose.

I started with them not long after the Jep. notes were first released, and whilst there were a few errors in them, I (and my physics/science teaching better half) found them to be of a good standard. And, whilst hard-back books aren't the easiest to work from, they do look nice now with all my other stuff on the bookshelf! Plus, they supplied the whole course in PDF format so I could work off my laptop.

And, I ended up with an 87% average with only one exam re-sit, which for a thicko like me, was very satisfying!

Hello all...

I have been over to AFT, and really liked their setup. I'm already signed up for the ICAO CPL ME to JAA CPL/ME conversion.

Anyone know what the conversion flight test is like? I mean, comparing to the Canadian CPL flight test. I heard that diversions are a bit tricky...but are they really that much different than the Transport Canada standard?? I appreciate that the airspace structure in UK and the EU is complex.

I had a look at the flight test standards, not much different than the ICAO standard really.

Any info from EX-ICAO pilots appreciated!!

Cheers!

I recently completed my ME CPL/IR and MCC with AFT.
I found the standard of instruction was good and the staff friendly and helpful.

The ops dept do their very best to get quick exam dates from the CAA examiners.

The only downside is the reliability of the DA42s. You can count on at least one of the three being grounded at any one time. This isn't a problem with AFT, all the DA42 schools are suffering.

I would recommend visiting them.

I can only repeat what others have already posted. I did the distance learning course with Atlantic in 2003-2004 and found every aspect of the course excellent. The tutors were knowledgeable and always helpful. And I managed 1st time passes in every paper. Of course, I can't guarantee that the same staff will still be there, but the school still seems to have a good reputation. As an additional bonus, when you visit the school you have the background sight and sounds of DC6's, DC3's and Lockheed Electras roaring down the runway (at least you did a few years back)!

Good luck
